For the period of reconstruction of the 15th building of the BNTU, the department "Geotechnics and Structural Mechanics" was provided with premises in the 6th educational building of the BNTU at st. B. Khmelnitsky, 9, room. 408, 409, 410, 411, 412, 413, 415.
The department conducts training sessions with students of construction specialties in the direction of structural mechanics of the university at the following courses:

○ "Technical Mechanics"
○ "Mechanics"
○ "Fundamentals of design automation in construction".
○ "Numerical methods for solving construction problems"
○ "Computer science"
Teachers of the department carry out research in various scientific areas, make presentations at international and republican scientific symposiums, seminars, annually hold student scientific and technical conferences.
Employees of the department conduct classes in the direction of geotechnics in the following disciplines:
○ "Engineering Geology"
○ "Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology"
○ "Soil mechanics, foundations and foundations"
○ "Fundamentals of environmental and energy sustainability of the enterprise"
○ "Fundamentals of Ecology"
○ “Protection of the population in emergency situations. Radiation safety"
Readable disciplines are provided by more than ten scientific and methodological developments, including those with the stamp of the Ministry of Education.
Together with the departments "Building structures named after Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor T. M. Petzold" and "Building materials and construction technology", diploma and course projects are managed, in which solutions are developed for geotechnical reconstructions of buildings and structures, including facilities of the Minsk Metro, where the latest achievements in geotechnics, including the results of NIRS.
Leading specialists of the department are actively working on the compilation of a set of national regulations. Scientific and consulting activities are carried out, advanced training of engineering personnel of technical supervision, construction supervision, metro builders, engineering and technical workers of construction organizations is being carried out.
In addition, the leading specialists of the department take an active part in organizing and conducting scientific and practical seminars on topical issues of modern geotechnics.
Much attention is paid to the survey and development of recommendations for the preservation of historical and architectural monuments. Students are involved in scientific research within the framework of NIRS.
There is a close relationship with production, design and survey organizations. With such as UE "Geoservice", NPO "Foundations".
Fruitful international scientific and technical cooperation has been established with a number of universities and research institutes, production organizations and individual specialists in the CIS countries and far abroad (Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary).
In October of this year, the BNTU is scheduled to host the International Scientific and Technical Conference "Geotechnics of Belarus: Science and Practice", dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Department of Foundations, Foundations and Engineering Geology (now Geotechnics and Structural Mechanics) and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Yuri Alexandrovich Sobolevsky.
Currently, the head of the department "Geotechnics and Structural Mechanics" is Associate Professor, Ph.D. T. M. Ulasik.
The staff of the department includes 2 professors, 6 associate professors, 5 senior teachers, 3 assistants, and 2 trainee teacher.
The department trains graduate students, undergraduates, more than twenty Ph.D. theses have been defended.
