Today, on September 10, on the eve of National Unity Day, a meeting of students was held at the Belarusian National Technical University as part of the “Youth on the Main Thing” project.
The speakers at the event were Dmitry Evtukh, First Secretary of the Sovetsky District Committee of the BRSM Public Association in Minsk; Anna Yashchembskaya, Chairman of the Student Council of BNTU; Maxim Kulik, Chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization of BNTU Students; and Rodion Fedorovich, Secretary of the BRSM Public Association with the rights of the RK at BNTU Rodion Fedorovich.
The meeting began with a historical overview: the speakers explained why the date of September 17 became a symbol of the unification of the Belarusian people and acquired the status of one of the main state holidays.
– This holiday is one of the most important, and it is truly a people’s holiday. We are living in years filled with historical dates that are significant for Belarus. The 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, the 80th anniversary of the reunification of Western Belarus with the BSSR. Undoubtedly, these are the most important events in our history. Often tragic, but above all, heroic events. Behind them lies an incredible price paid by our people. That is why it is important today not only to understand and remember, but also to talk about it, and that is why the events of September 17, 1939, are of such great significance, noted Maxim Kulik.
Unity is a shared historical memory and victory that have become more than just lessons from the past. They form a solid foundation for the sovereignty of our state. Anna Yashchembskaya spoke in more detail about how historical unity is directly linked to our right to independence.
– When we talk about the Day of National Unity, we emphasize, first and foremost, our right to sovereignty. The main force that ensured the reunification of the western and eastern lands is the desire to live with dignity in a single, strong state, to be a united people. This is the real sovereignty that did not fall on us from the sky, but was earned through the sweat and blood of our fathers, grandfathers, and great‑grandfathers, who made an invaluable contribution to the formation of Belarusian statehood.
In turn, Rodion Fedorovich gave a more detailed account of the republican campaign “Marathon of Unity”. The secretary of the BRSM explained to the students the importance of the event and emphasized that anyone can take part in it.
– The republican socio‑cultural campaign “Unity Marathon” unites all Belarusians. This event once again demonstrates the patriotism and unity of Belarusians in the name of our country’s sovereignty. Belarus can serve as an example of how representatives of different nationalities and religions can coexist in peace and mutual respect. Unique historical experience has taught our citizens to understand each other.
The event was held in the format of a live dialogue. The students asked many questions, and the speakers answered them in detail, emphasizing the importance of joint patriotic, volunteer, and educational initiatives that bring together young people and veterans.
– Belarus’s strong legs and wings are you! And only after you understand this, take it into account, and figure it out will Belarus thrive, including for our children as well. Today, living under a peaceful sky, we must build our bright and prosperous future. No matter what cataclysms and unrest shake the global community, Belarusians, I am sure, will always advocate for peace and harmony, Dmitry Evtukh noted.
During the open dialogue, the participants identified a key point of convergence: shared responsibility for the future of our country. In the near future, meetings within the framework of the project will be held at all faculties of BNTU.
