The department was formed as a result of the reorganization of the departments "Strength of materials of machine-building profile" and "Theoretical mechanics and mechatronics" on the basis of the decision of the BNTU Council dated 05/31/2019 and order No. 49-P dated 08/07/2019 "On improving the structure of BNTU".
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Yu.V. Vasilevich was appointed head of the department. Excellent student of education of the Republic of Belarus.
Historical milestones in the development of departments.
The Department of "Theoretical Mechanics" was founded in 1934, in different years led by well-known scientists: Professor Stolyarov N.A. (1934-1941); Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Okolovsky F.K. (1945-1954); Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Bessonov N.A. (1954-1957); Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Kim A.Kh. (1957-1958); Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Tatur G.K. (1958-1963); Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kim A.Kh. (1963-1978); Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Aksenovich D.A. (1978-1984); Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Gorbach N.I. (1984-1991); Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Chigarev A.V. (1991-2019).
The department "Strength of Materials" was established in 1945, it was headed by Professor Kravtsov N.I. From 1948 to 1971 headed the department ); Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor M.I. Rudicin. In 1971, two departments "Strength of materials of machine-building profile" were formed, which was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor G.M. Zhdanovich, and "Strength of materials and the theory of elasticity", it was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor E.F. Vinokurov. Since 1998, he headed the department, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Vasilevich Yu.V.
Based on the study of the disciplines taught at the department, students acquire knowledge and practical skills in solving problems in calculating the strength, rigidity and stability of structural elements of mechanical engineering, thermal power engineering, building structures and other engineering structures, and objects operating in difficult operating conditions under the influence of both static and and dynamic loads. Accounting for temperature effects and processes associated with the duration of operation of the objects under study is a necessary condition for assessing the reliability and durability of machines, apparatus, technical devices used at hazardous production facilities. The main scientific and educational-methodical directions of the department include: development of new analytical, approximate and numerical methods for calculating the strength, rigidity and stability of structural elements under the action of a given load, temperature field, operating conditions of operation; development of methods for calculating the thermally stressed state of structural elements, taking into account the anisotropic properties of the material, inhomogeneity, stress concentrators; mechanical and mathematical modeling of new composite reinforced materials and products; in 2016, edited by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Vasilevich Yu.V. The book "Mechanics of prepregs - calculation of products from reinforced composite materials" was published in 2 parts, part 1 - 295 pages, part 2 - 283 pages.
The department trains scientific personnel in the magistracy, postgraduate, doctoral studies.
The department has the necessary material and technical base, on the basis of which laboratory and research work is carried out.
