In March 2019, the department "Building Materials and Construction Technology" was formed by merging two departments: "Concrete Technology and Building Materials" and "Technology of Construction Production".
The department "Concrete technology and building materials" is organized (as the department "Building materials") and has been operating at the Belarusian National Technical University since 1961. The formation of the staff of the department and its leadership from 1961 to 1988. was carried out by Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Honored Scientist of the Byelorussian SSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Iosif Nikolaevich Akhverdov (1916-2007).
The department "Technology of construction production" is organized (as the department "Construction production") and has been functioning at the Belarusian National University since 1933. The formation of the modern staff of the department is largely connected with the activities of the head of the department in 1969-1980. S.S. Ataev - Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, Honored Builder of the BSSR, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor (1916-2007), and also the head of the department in 2001-2017. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor S.N. Leonovich (now - Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering).
The department is profiling and graduating, organizes and trains specialists (engineers-builders-technologists) for the construction industry of Belarus in the specialty 1-70 01 01 "Production of building products and structures" and engineers-builders in the specialty 1-70 02 01 "Industrial and civil construction".
The educational process of training specialists is organized and carried out using modern computer technology and technological equipment of educational laboratories and classes of the department, as well as on the basis of engineering, technical and testing and research equipment of 2 scientific laboratories of the department: research and testing laboratory of concrete and building materials. Its leaders are currently graduates of the department, Ph.D., A.A. Drozd (head of the sector; contact phone: 263-55-29; e-mail: niicsm@bntu.by). The laboratory is certified and accredited for independent examination (accreditation certificate ВY/1120 1.0024, valid until October 15, 2020); Research Laboratory "Industrial and Civil Engineering" (+37517-268-80-65; e-mail: nil_pgs@bntu.by ).
The laboratories carry out research work on orders from the Ministry of Construction and Architecture of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, as well as on applications and contracts with enterprises and organizations in the construction industry. According to the results of work for a number of years, the NIIL BiSM laboratory has been either the first or one of the first places in BNTU both in terms of the volume of research work performed and in terms of their importance for the construction industry of Belarus. Cooperation has been established with interested organizations and firms in Russia, Ukraine, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
Students of the specialty have a unique opportunity during their studies not only to master its basics, but also to actively participate in research work, including in the form of work in NIIL BiSM and NIIL PGS with remuneration. A number of students of both specialties were awarded certificates and diplomas for their success in research work.
In order to help students master the academic disciplines of the specialty, the staff of the department has prepared and constantly updates more than 300 methodological manuals for various purposes, including more than 30 publications with the stamp of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the educational and methodological association of universities of the Republic of Belarus for the specialties of PSIK, PGS and other construction specialties of universities. They reflect the problems and technologies for the production of building materials and the technology of construction production, concrete and reinforced concrete products and structures for various purposes, the problems of durability of building materials and ensuring operational reliability in construction; technologies for conducting concrete work in the winter and many other aspects of the production of building materials, products and structures and construction with their use.
The teaching staff of the department "Building materials and construction technology" is directly its employees and scientists from research laboratories. Thus, the practical connection of pedagogical and scientific activities is carried out, as well as the training of scientific and teaching staff for the future, since the laboratory staff involved in pedagogical work is young: almost half of their staff (more than 30 employees in total) are younger than 30-35 years old. Along with experienced professors and associate professors of the department, the leading staff of the laboratory, candidates of sciences, associate professors, works with students: O.G. Galuzo, A.A. Drozd, N.N. Kalinovskaya, L.V. Krasulina, A.I. Bondarovich, P.V. Ryabchikov, and as assistants and senior lecturers - researchers: V.G. Povidaiko and others.
During the training period, students have the opportunity to participate both in the experimental and practical work of laboratories and in the development of problematic tasks in the implementation of research projects, acquiring the skills of independent work in their specialty. The department trains masters and graduate students (up to 8 people study annually).
