The department "Mathematical Methods in Construction" was founded on February 11, 2019. the unification of the departments "Strength of materials and the theory of elasticity" and "Higher mathematics No. 3".
The main task of the department is to organize the educational process and provide it with the necessary educational and methodological support. The Department of MMC provides the implementation of educational programs in 21 specialties.
The following academic disciplines are read at the department: higher mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, differential geometry and the foundations of surface theory, discrete mathematics, computational mathematics, strength of materials and elasticity theory, mechanics of materials, fundamentals of structural mechanics, experiment planning and statistical processing of experimental data. For foreign students, certain disciplines are taught in English.
A scientific school has been created and operates at the department under the guidance of Professor S.V. Bosakov on the development of the theory of calculation of building structures on bases of variable stiffness, taking into account physical and structural non-linearity. The teacher-intern Skachek P.D. is completing his dissertation work.
Under the guidance of associate professors Verbitskaya O.L., Akimov V.D., senior teacher Khotomtseva M.A. and other teachers, the best students are engaged in research work, take part in subject Olympiads of the university in mathematics and strength of materials and achieve high results.
The department introduces innovative technologies into the educational process, creates electronic educational and methodological complexes, develops interactive test tasks for teaching and controlling knowledge in sections of the courses. It is planned to translate a significant part of the lecture material into English.
The teachers of the department improve their scientific and methodological training by participating in the work of the scientific and methodological section "Methods of mathematical modeling in applied research and the educational process." The department conducts scientific developments within the framework of several state budget studies. Intensive work is being carried out in the field of methods of teaching mathematics, computer programs are being created for designing elements of building and road structures, theories of calculation are being improved, and research is being carried out in the field of technology of road building materials. The teaching staff regularly publishes their works in national and international publications.
