Specialties from the inside: reliability from the foundation to the elevator

 A modern city is not only facades and highways, but also a complex economy where everything is important: from competent real estate expertise to reliable operation of elevators and construction equipment. Few people think about how buildings gain their value and who manages their life cycle or who ensures the uninterrupted operation of the lifts and machines that these buildings are built. These are the specialists who are trained at the Faculty of Construction (FC) and the Faculty of Transport Communications (FTK). 

 The Faculty of Construction trains specialists in "Real Estate Expertise and Management." They inspect the condition of buildings, determine their real value, and help manage the property effectively. Additionally, the Faculty of Transport Communications has recently opened enrollment in the "Road Construction and Lifting and Transport Machinery and Equipment" specialization (focused on lifting and transport machinery, elevators, and continuous transport machines). Such engineers are needed for the design and maintenance of elevators, conveyors, and hoists. Both professions make the city more convenient and reliable. 

 Expertise and Real Estate Management

Ekaterina Khmel, Head of the Department of Economics, Construction Organization, and Real Estate Management, spoke about the specialty "Expertise and Real Estate Management".

 Ekaterina Viktorovna emphasized that there is currently a stable demand for highly qualified specialists in the construction industry of Belarus. 

 The construction industry of Belarus currently has a stable demand for qualified specialists. Specialists with knowledge not only in the field of construction, but also in the fields of economics, valuation, and real estate management, are especially in demand. The development of the real estate market, the modernization of capital construction projects, and the need for effective management of property complexes create a high demand for graduates of this specialty. 

 The head of the department explains the key tasks of an engineer simply: 

— This is a specialist who is at the intersection of engineering, economics, and management, and their main task is to ensure the effective use of real estate at all stages of the life cycle. A specialist evaluates the technical condition of buildings, determines their value, analyzes the economic efficiency of their operation, and makes decisions on the further development of these facilities. Their work helps property owners and investors make informed decisions regarding the construction, renovation, purchase, sale, or operation of real estate. This is why specialists in this field are in high demand in various sectors of the economy related to different types of real estate.

 During their studies, students acquire a wide range of disciplines that combine technical and economic knowledge. Among the key courses are "Fundamentals of Real Estate Activities," "Real Estate Expertise and Inspection," "Construction Project Management," and "Real Estate Appraisal." In addition, future specialists receive rigorous engineering training in areas such as structural mechanics, materials science, and construction technology. 

 Students also have the opportunity to gain practical experience in leading construction companies, real estate registration agencies, design organizations, and valuation companies. Among the main employers of personnel are OAO Center for Industrial Appraisal, National Cadastral Agency, regional agencies for state registration and land cadastre, LLC Forensic Expert Board, as well as the largest construction and design organizations in the country. This cooperation provides future specialists with real-world experience in the fields of valuation, expertise, real estate management, and construction.

— Who do you think would be best suited for this profession, and why should high school graduates consider this field? What makes it truly interesting for future engineers?

— This specialty is suitable for those who are interested not only in construction technology, but also in economics and modern management technologies. It will be especially interesting for applicants who want not only to understand how real estate objects are created, but also to participate in decision-making about their further development and use. A graduate of this specialty can find employment in both technical and managerial or analytical fields. This is a field for those who want to pursue a career in construction, but do not want to limit themselves to the construction site.

Anastasia Kulakovskaya, a student of the Faculty of Construction, shared her impressions about studying the specialty "Real Estate Expertise and Management".

 The girl admitted that she wanted to find a specialty at the intersection of construction, economics, and human resources. 

 "When choosing a specialty, I wanted to find a field that combines construction, economics, management, and human resources. The specialty "Real Estate Expertise and Management" attracted me because it allows me not only to understand construction processes and various materials, but also to gain knowledge in the areas of assessment, operation, and effective management of real estate objects. I was attracted by the fact that real estate is an important part of the economy, and specialists in this field are involved in solving a wide range of tasks, from evaluating properties to managing them.

 Before enrolling, Anastasia thought that the specialty mainly involved evaluating buildings, but during her studies, she realized that her future profession was much broader, including legal regulation and market analysis. She also added that the field was even more multifaceted in practice.

 She gained her first experience working on professional tasks during her laboratory classes. Together with the guys, she got acquainted with the methods of surveying building structures – she carried out measurements and learned to analyze data. 

 – To whom and why would you recommend this specialty and what is the main advice you would give to applicants?

– I would recommend this specialty to those who are interested in real estate, the construction industry and the economy, and who want to get an education that combines technical and managerial competencies. To future applicants, I would advise not to be afraid of a large amount of new information and to try to make the most of the opportunities that the university provides. It is important to pay attention not only to specialized disciplines, but also to the development of communication skills, as working in the real estate industry involves constant interaction with people. For this, the university provides many opportunities to participate in various events.

Road-building and lifting-and-transporting machines and equipment

About the new specialty "Road-building and lifting-and-transporting machines and equipment" told the Head of the Department "Mechanization and automation of the road-building complex" Alexander Bezhik.

 Alexander Alexandrovich shared that a survey of the largest enterprises was conducted, thanks to which the acute need for personnel in this area was identified.

 — When preparing documentation for the opening in BNTU and the recruitment of applicants for the specialty, a written and oral survey of organizations was held. Large enterprises in the road construction, municipal services, and industrial sectors, as well as public and private organizations, such as OAO Belavtodor Holding Management Company, OAO Amkodor Holding Management Company, OAO Crane Factory, OAO Mogilevlifmash, OAO Bellift, OAO Liftservice, OAO MTZ, OAO AMKODOR-SEMASH, PPU Vitstroytekhmash, the Department for Supervision of Safe Industrial Operations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus (Gospromnadzor), and others, have expressed interest in specialists. In a conversation with representatives of personnel customers, there was an urgent need for young specialists at various levels of work with road construction and lifting and transport machines. Organizations are in dire need of specialists in the design, maintenance, operation, diagnostics, repair, and supervision of the proper operation of these machines. They point out that "the staff is getting older" and there is no one to pass on the experience, many design bureaus are understaffed, and some departments have been closed.

— If we explain the key task of an engineer in this field to future applicants in simple terms, what is it?

— The key task of an engineer who works with hoisting and transport machines, elevators, and continuous transport machines is to move cargo quickly and safely. 

Students will receive practical skills and study such academic disciplines as "Lifting and transport machines", "Elevators, escalators and travallators", "Vibration machines in construction", "Tug-transport machines", "Industrial safety of lifting and transport machines", "Theory and practice of ensuring the reliability, safety and durability of machines and equipment of the construction complex", "Problems of operation of machines of the construction complex" and many others, and will also receive a trade.

— With what large enterprises and industry flagships is the cooperation organized? Where do students do their internships, and where do the department's graduates most often get assigned?

— The Department of Mechanization and Automation of the Road Construction Complex actively cooperates with OJSC UM No. 79, OJSC BELLIFT, PUP VITSTROITEKHMASH, OJSC AMKODOR – MANAGING COMPANY OF THE HOLDING, and others, and has branches on the basis of the enterprises of OJSC AMKODOR – MANAGING COMPANY OF THE HOLDING and OJSC BELLIFT, where training classes and summer internships are held.

In the opinion of the head of the department, this specialty is most suitable for those who like to understand complex mechanisms.

— This specialty is most suitable for young people who like to understand how machines and mechanisms work, rather than just using them, get along with mathematics and physics, like to invent and design, and want to see the results of their labors.

Alexander Bejik urges girls not to be afraid of engineering specialties, because it is this experience that will be useful to them later in life.

— Girls should not be afraid of the specialty "Road-building and lifting-and-transporting machines and equipment", but also other engineering specialties, since they are not so narrow specialties, and the knowledge and experience gained within the walls of BNTU will be useful to them at different levels of the industry, from an engineer to a head of a state body, they can choose to work with technologies, with ideas, with people.

entrance tests: centralized exam or testing in mathematics, physics, and Russian or Belarusian language;

passing points for the budget (2025): 336.

qualification: engineer;

term and form of study: 5 years, full-time;

entrance exams: a centralized exam or a test in mathematics, physics, and Russian or Belarusian.
