From its roots in the "Machine Tools, and Mechanical Metal Processing" specialization to its current diverse range of programs, the faculty has consistently adapted to meet the evolving needs of the engineering industry. Through the introduction of specializations like "Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing" and "Robotics and Mechatronics," the faculty equips students with the cutting-edge skills and knowledge required to be successful in the 21st century. This dedication to progress ensures BNTU graduates remain highly sought after by leading industries worldwide.

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest faculties of the Belarusian National Technical University. Its history began on December 10, 1920 with the opening of the specialty "Machine tools, tools and machining of metals" in the first higher technical educational institution created in the republic. The faculty received a new life in 1934 as a mechanical faculty of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (BPI) formed in 1933. In 1958, the Faculty of Mechanics was renamed into Mechanical Engineering.

Currently, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering trains specialists in the following specialties:

Automation of technological processes and productions

Profiling

  • Intelligent devices, machines and productions;
  • Computer mechatronics;
  • Digital engineering production.

Engineering Economics

Profiling

  • Business processes of industrial enterprises;
  • Digital production.

Mechanical engineering technology, metal cutting machines and tools

Profiling

  • Engineering of technological equipment;
  • Computer-aided design of tool systems;
  • Technological support of machine-building production.

The faculty successfully operates magistracy, postgraduate and doctoral studies; there are 2 specialized councils for the defense of doctoral and master's theses.

The faculty includes 6 departments, 4 research laboratories and an information technology department. The scientific and creative potential of employees is high. The Faculty has 2 Corresponding Members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, 13 Doctors of Science and 40 Candidates of Science. About 70% of the teaching staff of the faculty have an academic degree of doctor or candidate of technical, physical, mathematical or economic sciences. At the MSF, the highest share in the university of teachers with the academic title of "professor" is 12% and 44% of the academic title is "associate professor".

The role of the mechanical engineering faculty in the training of engineering and technical personnel for the national economy is great. Only for the period from 1958. To date, more than 25,000 young specialists working in various sectors of the national economy have been trained. Among the graduates of the faculty are well-known scientists, statesmen and public figures, production managers.
