The faculty was formed in 1958 by dividing the mechanical faculty into mechanical-technological and machine-building. At the time of its formation, the ITF included 2 departments: "Machines and Technology of Foundry Production" and "Machines and Technology of Metal Forming".
Deans A.M.Dmitrovich (1958-1964), V.S.Pashchenko (1964-1976), B.V.Babushkin (1976-1985), V.M.Korolev (1985 -2003), N.I. Ivanitsky (2003-2013). The achievements of the faculty are inextricably linked with the names of famous scientists, organizers of higher technical education, academicians V.P. Severdenko, O.V. Roman, A.V. Stepanenko, P.A. Vityaz, professors V.I. Belyaev, E.I. Belsky, L.S. Lyakhovich, D.N. Khudokormov and others.
Today, the MTF includes 6 departments and 9 branches: at the Physicotechnical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, at the branch of ZAO Atlant - Baranovichi Machine-Tool Plant, at the Gomel foundry plant Tsentrolit, OAO BelNIILlit, OAO MAZ, 2 branches at MTZ, at OAO "BMZ", at OJSC "Beltsvetmet". The faculty has 6 research laboratories and an Innovation and Production Center for medical equipment and products. On the basis of the educational, scientific and production center "Metolit", which was part of the faculty, the Scientific and Technological Park of the BNTU "Polytechnic" was created. The educational process is carried out by more than 90 experienced scientific and pedagogical workers, including a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, 16 doctors of sciences, professors, about 50 candidates of sciences, associate professors.
