The Laboratory for Strengthening Steel Products (LSSP) at the Belarusian National Technical University's Scientific Research Polytechnic Institute has been conducting research in the field of chemical-thermal treatment of materials from powder media since 1966. The developed technological processes are regulated by national standards: GOST 28426-90 "Thermo-Diffusion Strengthening and Protection of Metal Products" and Technical Specification BY 100232486.028-2008 "Powder Media Saturation Environments".

These processes have undergone extensive testing in various sectors of the Belarusian economy and are successfully used by several enterprises, including "Atlant" in Minsk, OAO "Novogrudok Gas Equipment Plant JSC", "Gomselmash" in Gomel, "METZ" named after "Vavilov" in Minsk, OJSC "Ceramics" in Vitebsk, and others.

Areas of Activity:

- Development of scientific principles for obtaining multi-purpose thermo-diffusion coatings and the creation of a unified, low-waste technology for their application in industrial conditions.

- Development of scientific principles and technological principles for obtaining powder saturation media from oxides of saturating elements using the method of exothermic metallurgy.

- Intensification of thermo-diffusion treatment processes in powder media.

- Development of technological processes for strengthening machine parts, tooling, and equipment for industrial enterprises.

Scientific Potential and Material-Technical Base:

The laboratory is staffed by 3 doctoral researchers, 1 candidate of technical sciences, and 4 scientific researchers and engineers.

The laboratory is equipped with necessary scientific research and technological equipment, including equipment for metallographic and durometer analysis methods, corrosion studies, and thermal equipment.

Mastering of Scientific-Technical Products Developed by Assignment:

1. State Scientific and Technical Program "New Materials and Technologies", subprogram "New Materials and Surface Protection": R&D "Develop and implement an energy-saving, environmentally friendly technology for applying anti-corrosion diffusion coatings to metal structures."

2. State Scientific and Technical Program "New Materials and Technologies", subprogram "New Materials and Surface Protection": R&D "Develop nitrogen- and boron-containing powder mixtures and a technological process of thermochemical treatment using them to obtain products from high-alloy steels with high operational characteristics. Establish an experimental-industrial area for thermochemical treatment with a capacity of 1500 kg of products per year."

Areas of Application of Research Results:
The strengthening technology is successfully applied in various enterprises of the Republic of Belarus equipped with standard thermal equipment.

Assortment of Processed Products:
- Tooling and technological fixtures made of carbon steels (void and groove formers, press molds, guides for ceramic production).
