Announcement: We're sharing recent stories from applicants and describing the admissions process through the eyes of those who've already been through this stage.
The fifth day of application submission to the Belarusian National Technical University is in full swing. Applicants are increasingly confident in their choices, and admissions committee representatives are always ready to help and support those who are struggling with anxiety.
Emotions Under Control: Applicants on Their Choice
Sometimes a single event determines the choice of a future profession. For Artem, that moment was a school field trip to a real-life production facility. The young man confidently took a step toward a future in engineering and applied to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology. He is testing his skills in the specialty "Engineering and Technical Design and Production of Materials and Products. Machines and Foundry Technology":
"I chose BNTU primarily because I consider it the most prestigious technical university in our country." It's also located in Minsk, a large city that always offers young people the greatest opportunities for development. I chose this major very deliberately. One day, school took us on a factory tour. There, I saw firsthand how foundry specialists work, how real parts are created, and I loved the process. I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do. Besides, my scores are perfect for this major. I'm not particularly worried and remain confident, but my mother is a little worried—I think any parent would be at that stage. My main goal for my first year is to integrate into the academic process as quickly and successfully as possible. But I don't plan to limit myself to just classes: if the opportunity arises to prove myself in the university's extracurricular student life, I'll be happy to actively participate.
After talking with Valery, we learned why he chose the major "Equipment and Technology of Vacuum, Compressor, and Low-Temperature Engineering." "Vacuum and Compressor Engineering" in the Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy, and how he rates his chances of admission:
"I chose BNTU because it's the country's leading engineering university, and I've always really enjoyed technical specialties. My choice of program and faculty was no accident: firstly, when applying, I focused on the required scores, and secondly, I simply have a passion for this field. Friends who are already studying at BNTU were very helpful in making my final decision: they told me a lot about the university and recommended it. Right now, I'm not too worried and estimate my chances of admission at about 80%. In the future, I plan to not only study hard but also enjoy participating in all sorts of activities to prove myself in the busy student life!"
Albina enrolled at BNTU with an excellent score of 368 points. However, like many applicants, she still actively monitors the monitoring table. The young woman decided to pursue a creative and in-demand industry, so she applied to the Faculty of Management, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship (FMMEE) for the "Engineering Economics. Design Project Management at Industrial Enterprises" program:
"I chose BNTU because it's one of the most popular and prestigious universities in Belarus. Since I had to take English and math exams, it was quite difficult to find a suitable career, but I really liked the programs offered here. A friend helped me make the final choice: she's also applying to the FMMEE for the same program, so I was even more interested. I chose design project management because I see myself in this field and believe it's a very promising field. Despite my relatively good score, I'm still a little nervous: I'm passing last year's passing score, but I see students with higher scores applying, so I feel like I might fall a bit short. How am I coping?" I'm just looking forward to the last day of the admissions campaign: then I'll have a clear picture, it'll be easier, I'll be able to breathe a sigh of relief and go on vacation to the countryside. And in September, I plan to actively participate in student life. I've seen various videos of performances at the university – vocal, dance, and sports. I was especially impressed that you can perform guitar here. I play the instrument myself, so I'd really like to show off my talent on stage!
Sofia's collection of achievements is something to be truly proud of – the coveted 100 points in Russian! She applied to the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanities, majoring in Customs:
"I was very pleased when I saw my result, as I studied diligently all year and worked towards this goal for a very long time. I studied with an online tutor and also attended extra classes on Saturdays to better absorb the material. The main secret to high scores is hard work and determination. Of course, during the preparation period, I experienced burnout, and sometimes I wanted to give up. But I still tried to achieve my goals, and my main motivation was the desire not to disappoint my parents. As for choosing a university, I often came across information about BNTU online, and I was very interested. Then I came to the open day: I absolutely loved the program, and I wanted to enroll there. I chose a rather challenging specialty for myself. I read a lot about it online and realized that it was genuinely interesting to me, and I see myself in this field in the future. Thanks to my scores, I feel quite confident. At university, I plan to maintain the same high academic standards and, whenever possible, enjoy participating in creative and active student life."
Beyond the Admissions Committee
We spoke with students who have been working with applicants since the very first day about what the fifth day of admissions is like and why applicants shouldn't panic.
For example, student Ekaterina works with applicants from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and notes that by this point, students come with a clear understanding of what they want:
"On the fifth day of admissions, the students who come to us are already firmly convinced that they want to study in the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Lately, we've rarely encountered anyone hesitating or wavering between majors: applicants come with a clear goal in mind. I believe that when making a final choice, you should primarily rely on your personal interests."
Siberian Branch student Anastasia has also been helping with the application process since the first day of the campaign. She shared her perspective on applicants' anxiety and offered valuable advice to those overly concerned about their results:
"We continue to receive many anxious students, and their parents are no less anxious. We try to support and reassure everyone. I'd like to remind every applicant: even if you don't make it through the competition, life isn't over. There's always the option of going to a fee-paying program. Alternatively, you can take a break, dedicate a year to yourself, work somewhere, prepare even better for the exams, and then return to the competition with renewed vigor. Incidentally, now, on the fifth day of the campaign, we're noticing that the students are calmer—mostly those who have finally made their choice and set their priorities. All we can do is offer some insight or explain everything in detail to anxious parents to help the family make an informed decision." Admissions Office Contacts
