The Research Laboratory for Steel Products Strengthening has been engaged in research on the chemical-thermal treatment of metals and alloys since its foundation in 1966.
Over 100 wear-resistant, anti-corrosive, heat-resistant, cavitation-resistant, and other multifunctional layers have been developed and thoroughly investigated. Processes studied include boriding, siliconizing, carburizing (including the carburizing of high-alloy tool steels, saturation of steels and alloys with carbide-forming elements), carbonitriding (including low-temperature carbonitriding), aluminizing, galvanizing, chromizing, and other multi-component saturations based on boron, chromium, silicon, and aluminum.
The thermodynamics, chemistry, kinetics, and mechanisms of diffusion layer formation, including multi-component saturation, have been extensively studied.
Scientific Potential and Material-Technical Base:
The laboratory's research team includes 2 doctors, 1 candidate of technical sciences, and 8 research associates and engineers.
The Research Laboratory is equipped with ion-plasma nitriding equipment, microscopes, microsection preparation equipment, an induction heat treatment unit, heat-treatment furnaces, drying ovens, powder preparation drums, corrosion testing equipment, and necessary accessories.
Clients:
The developed strengthening technological processes and saturating environments have been repeatedly tested and successfully applied in various industries across the Republic of Belarus, including at:
CJSC "Atlant," Minsk
JSC "Novogrudok Gas Equipment Plant," Novogrudok
RUE "Gomselmash," Gomel
LLC "NGPO Plant," Novopolotsk
LLC "Belpromdetal," Minsk
Laboratory staff actively participate in state scientific and technical programs: "Mechanics, Technical Diagnostics, Metallurgy," "Functional and Composite Materials, Nanomaterials," "New Materials and Technologies," and others. In 2021, the staff worked on 5 projects under these programs.
Implemented Projects:
JSC "Novogrudok Gas Equipment Plant": Conducted research to enhance the durability of tool steels for hot pressure processing. Implemented a thermo-diffusion carbonitriding technology at the client’s production facility, utilizing a specially synthesized powder saturating medium for this purpose.
RUE(Republican Unitary Enterprise) "Gomselmash": Introduced a steel strengthening technology through thermodiffusion boriding. The appropriate powder saturating medium is produced using out-of-furnace aluminothermy.
Strengthening of Experimental Parts: The laboratory strengthens experimental batches of parts through thermo-diffusion boriding. This includes batches of cores for brick production ordered by LLC "OOO BELPROMDETAL" and casting equipment parts for CJSC "Atlant," among other enterprises. Currently, the research laboratory is the only unique owner of the comprehensive thermo-diffusion boriding technology using powder saturating mediums in the country, actively promoting its industrial application.
Technical Regulatory Development: Laboratory staff develop technical regulatory legal acts for various manufacturing and strengthening processes of metal products by request of national enterprises. For example, for LLC "OOO Vezha-Stroitel'Nye Mashiny" technical specifications for fasteners with thermo-diffusion zinc coatings were developed. For JSC "Vetraz' Begoml'Skii Zavod GP" technical specifications for general-purpose self-tapping screws were created, along with a technological instruction and process for their production.
Annual Research Projects: The laboratory conducts numerous research projects annually to meet the needs of national enterprises. For example, in 2020, the laboratory staff performed the following projects:
Unitary enterprise(UP) "Minskvodokanal": Investigated the material composition and causes of failure.
RUE(Republican Unitary Enterprise) "Vitebskenergo," Belorusskaya GRES
Branch: Studied the impact of fuel combustion products on the heat resistance of boiler steel elements.
- State Enterprise "Konus," RUE "NAN Belarus NCP on Agricultural Mechanization": Researched the corrosion resistance of parts with zinc coatings.
- "Niva" - Mining Equipment Plant: Studied the corrosion resistance of client samples in a salt spray chamber.
