The main stage of the 2026 admissions campaign is just around the corner. We're continuing our series featuring the faculties of the Belarusian National Technical University, their specialties, internship and employment opportunities, and what students do outside of the classroom. Today, we're introducing the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology (FME).

What is the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology like?

Forget the myth that working with metal is exclusively hard physical labor. Today, the FME is a land of innovation and high technology. Automation of modern production is steadily replacing manual labor, replacing it with analytics, IT solutions, and computer modeling. This is why every year more and more women are enrolling in the faculty, successfully mastering complex engineering professions. The faculty trains specialists in mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and materials science. Here, students not only learn theory; they master 3D printing of casting molds, computer modeling of physical processes, and the creation of composite materials. Key areas of study include foundry technologies, metallurgical production and processing, materials science, and pressure-forming technologies.

Igor Ivanov, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology, discussed the key features of the program in detail.

"Our faculty provides students with fundamental engineering knowledge and develops applied skills so they can fully master modern technological processes and innovations in the field of production and materials processing," noted Igor Arkadyevich.

"How in demand are the faculty's graduates, and who are the main clients for our talent?"

"Our graduates are extremely sought after in our country's labor market today. Their fundamental knowledge and mastery of advanced technologies allow them to successfully find employment in large industrial companies, factories, and innovative enterprises." The main clients for these specialists are traditionally giants of the mechanical engineering and metallurgy industries, foundries and metallurgical plants, research institutes, and metalworking organizations, said the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Technical Sciences.

Among the faculty's key strengths, the dean highlighted its strong faculty, modern laboratory equipment, and close cooperation with the manufacturing sector.

"Students have the opportunity to participate in research projects and innovative developments, which broadens their professional horizons," added Igor Arkadyevich.

According to him, the faculty places special emphasis on practical training:

"Practical training is organized at the country's leading plants—the Minsk Tractor Works, Belaruskali, the Mogilev Metallurgical Plant, and the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant. The training is structured so that students consolidate their knowledge directly in a professional environment, completing internships at cutting-edge production and research sites."

Advice for applicants

– Before applying, I would advise you to carefully research the department's specializations and the majors offered. This will help you understand whether this path is right for you and whether studying will be interesting. Be sure to pay attention to how the department helps you organize your internship and subsequent employment, as this is truly important. It's great to have the opportunity to gain first experience at a reliable company. And, of course, don't worry too much. Be confident in your abilities, set clear goals, and move towards them step by step. Everything will definitely work out if you approach the subject seriously and with genuine interest.

Student Life at the Faculty

Extracurricular activities at the Faculty of Mathematics and Technical Sciences allow each student to fully develop their creative, athletic, and organizational potential. The motto of the faculty's activists and creative groups is: "We are Your Faculty."

Life at the faculty is filled with exciting events. Students traditionally perform large-scale performances at the university-wide festival "BNTU Spring," actively compete for victory in the "Student of the Year" competition, and represent their groups in the "Best Group" project.

At the beginning of the academic year, new students are offered introductory quests, interactive dialogue platforms, and meetings with mentors, helping them integrate more quickly. Furthermore, the faculty has a well-developed student government, trade union, and BRSM (BelTA Youth Union), which organize leisure activities and help resolve everyday issues, including those related to the vibrant dorm life, where local tournaments and cozy evenings are regularly held. As part of their career guidance program, students serve as guides for schoolchildren in the "Student for a Day" project.
