In September 1966, the Department of Cybernetics and Computer Engineering (KK and VT) was opened at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. Associate Professor Kripsky Adam Mikhailovich became the first head. A significant contribution to the formation and development of the department at one time was made by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Dembovsky Leonid Makarovich and Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Furunzhiev Reshat Ibraimovich. During the existence of the department, 5 doctors of science and 11 candidates of science were trained from among the teachers working at the department. The current name of the department is POISIT "Software for information systems and technologies" (since February 2019). Department graduates are IT-specialists: future project managers, programmers, software testing specialists, system administrators of state and commercial structures of various industries. Today, most of the graduates work in the development of modern computer systems and information technologies. The department has classrooms and laboratories equipped with modern computers and technical facilities. The department successfully cooperates with enterprises, organizations, research centers, the High-Tech Park and IT companies of Belarus: IBA, ITransition, Techartgroup, Samsolution, TopSoft, BelHard, EpamSystems, etc.; educational institutions: Department of POIT BSUIR, Department of Computers BSUIR, Department of Programming Technologies BSU; academic institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: OIM, IM, UIPI; factories: MTZ, MAZ, BELAZ and other organizations and enterprises. Teaching staff: 1 professor, 9 associate professors, 6 senior teachers.
