Today, August 15, the “Bookids” family festival is taking place at the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Traditionally, the Belarusian National Technical University will be presenting its interactive booth at the career festival.
This year, guests are being introduced to the fields of study offered by three faculties at once: the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology, the Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics, and the Faculty of Architecture.
“We try to take part in this festival every year. The tenth anniversary festival was held in June, and now it’s the August one. We really love this event for the lively interaction with the younger generation, the childlike spontaneity and excitement, the love of nature and life, the smiles, kindness, and positivity,” said Valentina Kuzmich, a senior lecturer at the Department of Mining Operations at the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering.
Preparations for the festival’s summer season begin long before the first warm days. As Valentina Kuzmich said, any idea doesn’t come to life right away — it needs to be thought through, refined, and understood in terms of who can do what. A vivid confirmation of this is the design of the BNTU location. This time, the venue was decorated with stylish wooden pallets, creating an atmosphere of coziness and making the university easily recognizable.
“We always want to make the venue bright and positive. We transported these pallets ourselves, painted them, and assembled them.” We strive to make sure that children and their parents feel comfortable with us.
At the BNTU venue, every young visitor will find something to their liking. The kids control robots, examine rock samples under a microscope, study the structure of minerals, and try their hand at being architects in creative drawing workshops. The variety of activities ensures that no visitor gets bored.
Polina, a 4th‑year student at the Faculty of Information Technology and Radioelectronics, shared her impressions; this is her first time working at the festival as a volunteer.
– The impressions are extremely positive! The event is very well organized. We show children robots – that’s what interests them the most. We also let them draw and give them stickers. The children who come are very young, and they find it interesting to interact with the equipment.
The festival has already become a great opportunity for career guidance. Visitor Yuri, who came with his son, noted the variety of locations:
– We really liked the geological section, the stones, the microscopes – it’s interesting. We’ve already visited many venues, but we stayed at BNTU for a long time. My son is 7 years old, and he’s very curious about everything. Festivals like this help you decide on a profession and figure out what the child will be interested in doing in the future.
