Department "Powder metallurgy, welding and technology of materials" ("PMS and TM") is one of the leading general technical and graduating departments of BNTU.
Currently, the department has 3 professors, 4 associate professors, 2 senior lecturers.
The staff of the department published more than 20 textbooks and teaching aids and about 20 monographs. The scientific direction of the department is connected with the development of theoretical and technological foundations for the production and processing of new materials, including powder, welding, hardening and restoration of the surfaces of parts.
Research work at the department is carried out according to state programs of scientific and applied research and contractual work with enterprises of the Republic of Belarus.
The department carries out successful international cooperation with scientific institutions and industrial enterprises of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, China, Germany, Poland, Sweden, India and other countries. The scientific and technical developments of the staff of the department were awarded the State Prizes of the BSSR and the Republic of Belarus, the Prizes of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the Republic of Belarus, the VLKSM, the LKSMB, medals and diplomas of the VDNKh of the USSR and other international exhibitions.
The department has a research testing laboratory for welding, related technologies and non-destructive testing (Scientific consultant - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Panteleenko F.I., Head of the Laboratory, Ph.D., Associate Professor Sidorov V.A.) , within the framework of which there is a control and measurement Center for non-destructive testing (visual, capillary, radiographic, ultrasonic), mechanical tests and metallographic studies of the base metal and welded joints (accreditation certificate BY / 112 1.0517 dated 31.03.2008) and the body for certification of technological welding processes, welding production specialists (welding managers), welders and heat-treaters - operators of mobile heat treatment plants for welded joints (Gospromnadzor permission No. 06-43K-2012),including in accordance with the requirements of European and international standards.
Postgraduate and doctoral studies work at the department, where for many years the training of highly qualified specialists in the following specialties has been carried out: 05.03.06 "Technology and machines of welding production" 05.16.06 "Powder metallurgy and composite materials and materials". During the existence of the department, 10 employees defended doctoral dissertations, more than 120 graduate students and applicants received the degrees of candidates of technical sciences. Specialists from other educational institutions, including those from abroad, are trained at the department.
Since 2003, the department has been opening its branches on the basis of the Minsk Tractor Plant for the training of welding engineers in the specialty "Equipment and technology of welding production" and in BGNPC "Powder Metallurgy" for the training of metallurgical engineers in the specialty "Powder metallurgy, composite materials, coatings ". Every year, more than 20 students undergo design and technological and undergraduate practice at the branches. Employees of the branch manage practices and diploma design. During the internship, students not only study modern technologies for the manufacture of various parts, but also carry out research work, participating in solving specific production problems. Such a practice-oriented approach to the training of young professionals provides a higher level of education,
The department "Powder metallurgy, welding and technology of materials" trains specialists-engineers for various branches of mechanical engineering in the specialty 1-36 01 06 "Equipment and technology of welding production."
During the training period, future engineers receive high general scientific, engineering, special technological and design training necessary for the implementation of their professional activities. Special training includes: theoretical foundations of welding processes, design of technological processes, design and production of welded structures, automation of welding production, effective use of computers in process design and production, design and organization of production. In modern computer classes, work is carried out on the design of technological processes of welding, equipment, welded structures and fixtures. Automated control systems for welding complexes are being mastered, which form the basis of the welding production of a modern industrial enterprise. When passing production practices at the leading industrial enterprises of the republic, the necessary production experience is acquired. Deep practical training is also carried out in the laboratories of the department and training and production workshops, equipped with modern equipment, where future engineers are involved in scientific research.
After graduation, graduate engineers will be able to continue their education in the magistracy, and then in graduate school in their related specialty, followed by the defense of a dissertation in one of the new areas in the field of theory and technology of welding.
Since 2013, the training of specialists in the second stage of education (master's degree) has been opened in the following specialties: 1-36 80 04 Processing of structural materials in mechanical engineering 1-36 81 03 "Welding and related technologies in industry" Master's degree in technical sciences.
Graduates of the department work in all sectors of the real sector of the economy of the Republic of Belarus, both in public and private companies with career prospects. This is a process engineer for the development of technological welding processes using computer technology, the head of the welding technology bureau or the head of the design bureau; deputy chief technologist, etc.
The acute shortage of qualified welding engineers recently in the Republic of Belarus is not covered by the number of graduates of engineers. Therefore, when distributing personnel, there is no problem with employment. The distribution is carried out to the leading enterprises of the republic, such as: BelAZ OJSC, Beltransgaz, CentroEnergoMontazh, Amkodor OJSC, MAZ OJSC, RUE MTZ, Minsk Refrigerator Plant, NPRUE KBTEM-OMO, OJSC MZKT ”, OJSC “Promtekhmontazh”, OJSC “Belkommunmash”, etc. Here, the knowledge and skills, initiative and intelligence of future engineers will be in demand in the successful development of the national economy of the Republic of Belarus.
