The department " Mechanical Engineering Technology " is one of the leading graduating departments of BNTU, where more than 1500 full-time and part-time students study.
Currently, the department has 8 professors, 11 associate professors, 11 senior teachers and 3 assistants. The chair is headed by the Honored Worker of Science of the Republic of Belarus, laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus, the State Prize of the BSSR, the Council of Ministers of the USSR and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Valery Konstantinovich Sheleg.
The staff of the department published more than 30 textbooks and teaching aids and about 20 monographs, developed and approved standard programs for universities of the republic in more than 10 disciplines.
The scientific direction of the department is connected with the development of theoretical and technological foundations of processing and assembly processes, the study of the patterns of formation of surface quality and performance indicators of machine parts.
One research innovative laboratory of plasma and laser technologies is organized and successfully operates at the department.
Postgraduate and doctoral studies work successfully at the department. Dozens of graduate students of the department defended their Ph.D. dissertations and now teach at universities, work in research institutes, and head factories. The department is the founder of the International Scientific and Technical Journal "Theory and Practice of Mechanical Engineering".
Specialists from other educational institutions, including those from abroad, are trained at the department. Research work at the department is carried out according to the republican and interuniversity programs of fundamental research.
In accordance with agreements on interuniversity cooperation, the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology has established creative relations with more than 13 universities of near and far abroad, for example, with the Technical University of Ilmenau (Germany), Zelenogurskaya Polytechnic (Zelena Gora, Poland), higher technical schools: Bratislava (Slovakia), Osnabrück (Germany) and Aargau (Switzerland); Central Michigan University (USA); as well as with Russian universities: Bryansk State Technical University (BrSTU). Don State Technical University (DSTU), Moscow State Technical University (STANKIN), Moscow State Technical University. N.E. Bauman, Novocherkassk State Technical Universities (NSTU), Izhevsk State Technical Universities (Izh STU),
In 1999, under the Office of the Chief Technologist (UGT) MTZ, a branch of the department "Technology of Mechanical Engineering" was organized. The work of the branch was headed by the chief technologist of MTZ Barkun A.A.
Every year, more than 70 students take design and technological and undergraduate practice at MTZ. Employees of the branch manage practices and diploma design. During the internship, students not only study the manufacturing technologies of various parts, but also perform research work, participating in solving specific production problems. This approach to the training of young specialists provides a higher level of education that meets the modern needs of production.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology trains specialists-engineers for various branches of mechanical engineering in three specialties:
During the years of study, students receive high general scientific, engineering, special technological and design training.
Special training includes: theoretical foundations of mechanical engineering technology, design of technological processes, determination of the necessary set of processing methods and the sequence of their implementation, design of technological equipment and cutting tools for flexible technological systems, mathematical modeling of technological processes, effective use of computers in technological design and production, design and organization of production, management of a machine-building enterprise.
Graduates of the department become specialists capable of developing the entire life cycle of mechanical engineering products, including the repair and restoration of parts and assemblies, and work as technologists, designers and researchers in the design and technological services of workshops and departments of machine-building plants, managers of various ranks - from foreman to chief engineer and director enterprises.
The best students after graduation can continue their education in the magistracy and postgraduate studies.
