V.K. Sheleg, born in 1946, is a Belarusian and a member of the Belaya Rus public organization. He graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute in 1969 and subsequently worked as a designer at a specialized design bureau for automatic production lines. From September 1972, he worked at the Belarusian State Research and Production Concern for Powder Metallurgy (formerly the Research Institute of Powder Metallurgy, then the Belarusian Republican Research and Production Association for Powder Metallurgy), where he rose from senior engineer to general director.

Since June 2005, he has been working as the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology at the Belarusian National Technical University.

In 1978, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, and in 1988, for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences. In 1991, he was awarded the academic title of Professor, and in 2001, the title of Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus. In 2014, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. V.K. Sheleg is a renowned scientist in the fields of mechanical engineering, materials science, powder metallurgy, welding, and protective coatings.

For the research and development of new heat exchangers with capillary structures and their industrial implementation, V.K. Sheleg and his team were awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus in 1978, and the State Prize of the BSSR in 1980 for the development and economic introduction of new porous materials and products based on metal powders. In 1987, V.K. Sheleg was awarded the USSR Council of Ministers Prize for the development and economic introduction of permeable materials with high performance properties, and in 1997, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Prize for his monograph "Theory and Practice of Electropulse Sintering of Porous Powder Materials."

In recent years, V.K. Sheleg has led a research school in the field of theory and practice of managing the formation of surface quality in parts during mechanical processing, including those made from metal powders. With his direct participation and under his scientific supervision, a series of studies were conducted on the surface quality and performance of machine parts during needle milling and electropulse polishing of corrosion-resistant and carbon structural steels. Based on his theoretical research, devices were developed that ensure stable chip breaking during vibration turning of high-alloy steels.

The results of V.K. Sheleg’s scientific work are reflected in 798 published works, including 27 monographs and 228 scientific articles.

V.K. Sheleg's practical developments are protected by more than 280 copyright certificates and patents.

V.K. Sheleg has extensive experience in scientific and organizational matters. He served as a member of the Commission on State Scientific and Technical Policy under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, a member of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the State Expert Council of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and is the Editor-in-Chief of the Republican Interdepartmental Collection of Scientific Papers "Mechanical Engineering." He has also served as a member of the editorial board of several journals and collections. On his initiative, four department branches were established at the Republican Unitary Enterprise "MTZ," the Republican Unitary Enterprise "MZKT," the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Ten candidates and five doctors of engineering have been trained under his supervision.

He was awarded honorary diplomas from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Higher Attestation Commission, the State Committee for Science and Technology, and the badge "For Merits in Standardization." In 2007, he was awarded a personal bonus from the President of the Republic of Belarus for his outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development of the Republic of Belarus.
