The establishment of the department dates back to 1920 when the specialty "Machine Tools, Instruments, and Mechanical Metalworking" was introduced in Belarus.
In 1933, the combined department "Machine Tools, Instruments, and Cold Metalworking" was created, headed by Professor A.S. Sakov from MVTU (Moscow).
From 1936, this department was divided into two: "Machine Engineering Technology" and "Metal Cutting Machines and Tools". Professor A.S. Sakov led the "Machine Engineering Technology" department.
From 1937 to 1941, the head of the "Machine Engineering Technology" department was Professor V.N. Fedorov, an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the BSSR since 1946. From 1945 to 1946, there was a combined department "Machine Engineering Technology, Machines, and Tools" led by Professor V.N. Fedorov. Since 1947, the "Machine Engineering Technology" department has been headed by Associate Professor N.F. Sovkin, who later became the vice-rector for academic affairs.
Significant contributions to the department's development in the post-war years were made by its heads: G.M. Yakovlev (1951-1976), I.L. Aleshkevich (1976-1977), V.V. Babuk (1977-1985), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the BSSR V.N. Chachin (1985-1992), I.P. Filonov (1992-2005), as well as prominent scientists and industry professionals who worked there over the years: G.K. Goransky, O.V. Roman, M.Y. Kane, S.S. Kostyukovich, V.N. Chebotarev, A.V. Shestunin, K.P. Zabrodin, P.A. Gorezko, A.S. Shamsur, N.P. Haydukevich, among others.
Since 2005, the "Machine Engineering Technology" department has been headed by Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.K. Sheleg.

Viktor Chachin Nikolaevich (25.01.1930 - 6.06.1994) Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, laureate of the State Prize of the BSSR. In 1983 he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the BSSR. From 1983 to 1994 V.N. Chachin was the rector of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. From 1985 to 1992 he headed the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology. Twenty candidates of sciences and three doctors of sciences defended under his leadership. V.N. Chachin is the author of 5 monographs, more than 150 scientific articles and many inventions. |

Igor Filonov Pavlovich Doctor of technical sciences, professor. Works at BNTU since 1960. From 1992 to 2005, he headed the Department of Engineering Technology. Since 1993 - Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. From 2000 to 2004 - First Vice-Rector of the Belarusian National Technical University. Filonov I.P. He is the chairman of the council for the defense of doctoral dissertations in three specialties. Under his leadership, five doctoral and twelve master's theses were defended. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of April 3, 2000, Filonov I.P. awarded the honorary title "Honored Worker of Science of the Republic of Belarus". Valery Sheleg Konstantinovich Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor. Prepared 3 doctors and 9 candidates of technical sciences, co-authored more than 600 scientific papers, incl. 15 monographs and manuals, more than 240 copyright certificates. |
