The "Digital Mechanical Engineering" Competence Center at the BNTU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering continues to advance practice-oriented training. This time, the facility hosted students from the Minsk State College of Production Automation, enrolled in the program "Operation and Setup of Automated Mechanical Engineering Equipment" (specialty code 4-03-0714-02).
The classes took place on September 10 and 17 as part of an educational program delivered through a network collaboration arrangement. The module focused on the "Operation and Fundamentals of Diagnostics for CNC Metal-Cutting Machine Tools." Students studied the verification of geometric accuracy for CNC lathes and milling machines.
The sessions were conducted by Alexander Maksimovich Yakimovich, Professor of the Technological Equipment Department, and Alexander Vladimirovich Azhar, Senior Lecturer of the Technological Equipment Department.
The Competence Center serves as a modern educational and research facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology. It houses laboratories covering key areas of digital mechanical engineering: engineering and diagnostics of technological equipment, cyber-physical technologies, intelligent mechatronic systems and drives, as well as additive technologies and reverse engineering. One of the center's key objectives is to organize and coordinate collaborative networks with educational institutions.
A practical session on verifying the geometric accuracy of machine tools plays a vital role in training mid-level specialists. Geometric accuracy is a critical parameter determining the quality of parts machined on CNC metal-cutting equipment. Students had the opportunity not only to learn measurement methodologies but also to hone their practical skills using the competence center's actual equipment—an experience that significantly complements the theoretical training received at the college.
We extend our gratitude to MP Modul LLC (Minsk) for providing the inspection and measuring instruments used during the sessions to verify the geometric accuracy of a milling machine. Such collaboration with industry partners ensures a practical focus in training and aligns workforce preparation with real-world production conditions.
