On October 3, students from Minsk Secondary School No. 178 named after T.A. Lukyanovich continued their introduction to the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering by participating in the "Miner" quest.
This was not the students' first visit to the Belarusian National Technical University; for the third consecutive year, the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering has hosted guests as part of the elective course "In the World of Engineering and Technology: Choosing an Engineering Career" as well as through career guidance Saturdays, university and faculty open days, and the faculty’s "Young Engineers" program. Over these three years, such visits have become an integral part of faculty life, with the interactive "Miner" quest standing out as one of the program's most memorable highlights.
The students were already familiar with the actual fields of study within the mining industry. On this occasion, Valentina Kuzmich (Senior Lecturer, Department of Mining Operations) and Ksenia Syrnikova (Lecturer, Department of Mining Machinery) demonstrated — in an engaging, educational, and highly inspiring way — how theoretical knowledge is applied in practice. A genuine mining-themed course was set up on the BNTU campus, featuring eight stations that challenged participants with new tasks — ranging from spelling out a word using a theodolite to identifying minerals by sight:
School students worked in teams, learning to make quick decisions and coordinate their actions; they developed an understanding of mining concepts and an eye for detail, earning points for accuracy, speed, and creative solutions.
Thank you all for participating! We look forward to seeing you again for new discoveries.
