Congratulations from the Rector of BNTU on Teacher’s Day

Поздравление Ректора БНТУ с Днем учителя

Today, October 4, Belarus celebrates Teacher’s Day — a professional holiday for everyone who has dedicated their life to the noble cause of education, upbringing, and passing on knowledge to the younger generation. Rector Sergei Kharitonchik addressed the teachers of the Belarusian National Technical University with a congratulatory message.

“Dear teachers of the Belarusian National Technical University! From the bottom of my heart, I congratulate you on Teacher’s Day!

It is you, teachers and mentors, who lay the foundation for the intellectual and technological sovereignty of our country. It is through your hands and minds that the personalities of future engineers, scientists, and creators are formed — people on whom the industrial power and prosperity of Belarus directly depend.

The Belarusian National Technical University has a strong engineering school, which is known far beyond the country’s borders today. Behind every success and scientific development of the university stand our teachers. You impart fundamental knowledge, foster a unique engineering mindset, and nurture professionals capable of creating competitive technology and working with the most advanced equipment. Your pedagogical tact, innovative approach to teaching, and boundless faith in every student enable young people to find their calling and build the future.

Thanks to your professionalism and responsible approach to your beloved work, young people learn to set life priorities correctly and fairly, to analyze large volumes of information, and to successfully apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired.

I thank you for your dedication to the profession and your love for what you do. We wish you good health, inspiration, talented and grateful students, as well as new professional victories! May your work always bring deep satisfaction, and the successes of your students become the highest reward!

Rector

The history of the holiday

In the Soviet Union, the "Teacher's Day" holiday was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1965 and was initially assigned to the first Sunday in October. This tradition has been preserved in the modern Republic of Belarus.

It is worth noting that since 1994, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has established World Teachers’ Day, which is observed on October 5. This international date is intended to draw attention to the situation of teachers around the world and their contribution to the development of global education. Nevertheless, in Belarus, the historically established date of the first Sunday in October remains a truly popular and warm day when schoolchildren, students and graduates rush to express their sincere gratitude to their beloved mentors.

Teachers at BNTU

One of the strengths of BNTU is the people who teach students. Our teachers are practitioners: engineers and scientists who solve complex problems in industry and science on a daily basis. It is this experience that they bring into the educational process so that students work with real, rather than abstract, examples.

In recent years, dozens of university teachers have been awarded honorary diplomas and commendations by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus for their significant personal contribution to the development of education and the training of engineering personnel. Thus, in 2025, Alla Kalina, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Machine Parts, was awarded a commendation from the President of the Republic of Belarus for her fruitful scientific and pedagogical work, her significant personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists, and the development of the creative abilities of talented young people. For many years of fruitful pedagogical work and a significant personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, in 2026 the President of the Republic of Belarus awarded a commendation to Igor Yankovsky, first deputy head of the Military‑Technical Faculty.

Over the years, such prominent university scholars as an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the rector of BNTU (from 2000 to 2017), Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Boris Khrustalev, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Roman Ivut, and Professor of the Department of “History of Belarusian Statehood,” Candidate of Historical Sciences Konstantin Balandin, have been awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.”

BNTU not only brings together the best teachers but also trains new generations of mentors. The Engineering and Pedagogical Faculty trains highly qualified teachers and instructors for vocational training. The Department of Psychology at the IEF was recognized as the best humanities department at the university based on the results of an internal review and competition for the 2022/2023 academic year.

To ensure that theory does not become detached from reality, IEF students complete their teaching practice directly in educational institutions. There, they learn to manage a real audience, master the art of conducting lessons, and prepare to pass on their knowledge to future workers and technicians.

On this festive day, we would like to once again say a sincere “thank you” to all the teachers, veterans, and staff involved in the educational process at the Belarusian National Technical University. We wish you inspiration every day, respect from your colleagues, and endless pride in your students’ successes.
