On February 12, 1963, the Department of Safety and Fire Fighting Equipment was established at the BPI, which in September 1965 was renamed the Department of Labor Protection. The first head of the department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor F.A.Bogdanovich. In the future, the department was headed by associate professor N.M. Rykov (from 1979 to 1984), candidate of technical sciences, associate professor I.V. Zayash (from 1984 to 1999). Since 1999, the head of the department is Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor AMLazarenkov (tel. 292-75-62).
The main activities of the department:
- educational work - classes are held in the sections of the course "Labor protection": the basics of legislation, industrial sanitation, safety, fire safety with all university students;
- research work - GB 21-221 "Comprehensive assessment of working conditions of workers and their impact on occupational injuries and occupational morbidity in the sectors of the national economy of the Republic of Belarus".
According to the results of research work, the staff of the department published more than 600 scientific papers, took part in the work of international conferences and seminars. In the 2023-2024 academic year, based on the results of the work, students prepared: 10 reports for the Republican Student Scientific and Technical Conference "New Materials and Technologies" and 20 reports for the VI International Scientific and Practical Internet Conference of Students and Undergraduates "Casting and Metallurgy 2023".
The department has created an educational and laboratory base, published and constantly updated educational and methodological and methodological literature on conducting laboratory classes, practical work, performing tests by distance learning students and sections on labor protection in graduation projects. The department organized a computer class to control the knowledge of students in the performance of laboratory work. The department employs a highly qualified team of teachers who train highly qualified specialists in the disciplines "Labor protection", "Labor protection in construction", "Fire safety", "Human life safety".
