Department : Armored weapons and equipment

The training of reserve tank officers began in the distant 30s of the last century at the military department at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. The brigade commander Trusevich N.V. was appointed the first head of the military department, then he was replaced by the brigade commander Ostrovsky A.A., then colonel Verichev V.N.

The department trained senior students of the institute as reserve officers of engineering and technical specialties of divisions and units of the tank, engineering and chemical troops of the Red Army. The training period was one year. To organize the educational process, the department had 2 medium tanks, 2 armored vehicles, engineering vehicles, small arms, chemical and other equipment. The enrollment of students in military training was about 90-100 people.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the officers of the department joined the ranks of the active Red Army and partisan detachments. During these years, the military department did not function.

June 28, 1941 mountains. Minsk was occupied by Nazi troops. The Belarusian Polytechnic Institute did not have time to evacuate to the central regions of the Soviet Union, and the Nazis burned all its educational and residential buildings, and took the laboratory equipment and library fund to Germany. On the basis of the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR of April 13, 1944 "On the introduction of military training for students of civilian universities" in February 1945, a military department was re-established at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute.

From February 1945 to February 1948 the enrollment of students in military training amounted to 150 people, and from 1948 to 1953 it was already 200 people. The lesson was held in the educational buildings of the BPI. During these years, students began to travel to training camps in the troops, where classes were held with weapons and military equipment in the field. After the training camp, the students took the final exam and they were certified for officer positions.

Colonel I.V. Zhiganov was appointed head of the department (in the period 1945-1948). Subsequently, the heads of departments were Colonel Rui N.A. (1948-1953), Major General Komarov N.P. (1953-1961), Colonel Kiryushchenko I.T. (1961-1969), Colonel Mozzhukhin I.A. (1969-1973).

At first, the coverage of students with military training was insignificant, but in the period from 1953 to 1960, the release of reserve officers increased annually. During this period, for the first time, 7 cycles were created at the military department, in which about 60 teaching officers served. About 1,000 students of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute were involved in military training. The teaching officers, for the most part, had combat experience and practice acquired during the harsh years of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

From 1961 to 1969, there were already 8 cycles at the military department and from 2362 to 3715 students underwent military training, who were reduced to 120 to 150 training platoons for classes. By 1961, the military department of the BPI was located in the 4th educational building and had 15 classrooms, 5 offices and a garage for practical training with students - future tank troops reserve officers.

By 1970, the military department already had 9 cycles and came to grips with the study of the material part of the tank. Military training classes were held in two shifts, combat training and self-training were introduced, which significantly strengthened the discipline and quality of students' military training.

In the 1970-1971 academic year, 3832 students were already undergoing military training, military training was carried out according to the profiles of reserve officers of tank and engineering troops. The educational and material base and the classroom fund have been significantly expanded.

In the 1971 - 1972 academic year, the number of students increased to 4819 people, teachers to 70 people. The training camp in the troops in 1972 was held by 1200 students, including 497 tankers.

All teachers and teaching support staff in 1972 worked with great enthusiasm, showing reasonable initiative and creativity in their work. The result of the winter session: average score - 4.01; absolute progress - 99.7%. Students of 4 faculties of the BPI were trained in the tank profile.

Since 1972, work began on the selection of candidates for conscription into the Armed Forces, and 19 people were selected.

In connection with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the formation and reform of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, the military department of the BSPA was characterized by a reduction in the number of teaching and educational support staff, as well as the number of students involved in military training. The meeting of teachers and students of the BSPA with the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G. Lukashenko on December 30, 1994 contributed to the solution of many problems of the university and the military department

In 1998, from March 8 to March 10, the military department was checked by the Main Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus and was rated "good", recognized as the best department in the Republic of Belarus.

In 2000, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 165, the Belarusian State Polytechnic Academy was transformed into the Belarusian National Technical University.

From the 70s of the last century until 2003, tank reserve officers were trained on cycles under the guidance
