Department : Highways

In accordance with the order dated October 26, 2018 No. 8447 "On improving the structure of BNTU", the departments were reorganized by merging the department "Construction and operation of roads" with the department "Road Design" into the department "Roads" from 11.02.2019.

The training of engineers - builders of highways is carried out in full-time and part-time forms of education by the Department of Roads.

The curriculum provides for the study of a cycle of humanitarian, natural science, general engineering and special disciplines.

In the process of studying, students will be able to gain knowledge in the field of design and construction of roads and airfields, diagnostics, maintenance and repair of roads and road structures, organization and safety of traffic, organization and management in the road complex system, ensuring the development of the industrial base of the road economy, production and the use of modern road construction materials, the creation of a multifunctional road service and environmental safety in the system of the road transport complex.

When training specialists, the realities and requirements of not only the present, but also the future are taken into account. At the same time, the entire educational process is based on the achievements and traditions of the department, formed over a 65-year history, and absorbed all the best from the classical school of road construction.

So in the modern laboratories of the department, students not only receive fundamental knowledge about traditional building materials, but also develop new and innovative ones, both during training sessions and in their free time. A feature of the work of the department is its close connection with production. Such a symbiosis allows, on the one hand, to train specialists for the changing needs of the industry, and on the other hand, production to receive the latest scientific and technical information.

In the course of cooperation, the material and technical base of the department is constantly updated, students are provided with real initial data for course and diploma design. In the process of learning, students visit construction sites, both during internships, where they are directly involved in construction, and during practical classes and excursions. So students visited and took part in the construction of such iconic objects as "The Second Ring Road around Minsk", "Construction of the second runway at the National Airport "Minsk", etc.

One of the indicators of confidence in the department is the fact that the opinion of teachers and students is taken into account in the development and revision of technical regulations. Also, often students provide assistance in testing various building materials to organizations when they need to get the estimated results in the shortest possible time and with high quality.

Equally important are the regular meetings of students with the leadership of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Belarus, heads of design, road construction and operating organizations, representatives of world manufacturers of road construction equipment, etc.

The training of specialists with information modeling skills in linear construction required the Department of Roads to change the approach and the very methodology for organizing the educational process, which today includes: a lecture part that considers the theoretical aspects of TIM (for clarity, multimedia equipment is used to demonstrate the functionality BY); laboratory classes based on the performance of individual tasks by students on the design of full-fledged information models of roads.

The implementation of the graduation project is not only the result of work to improve the quality of training of road specialists, but also strengthens ties with organizations that order young specialists. When developing a real project, a graduate student applies the acquired knowledge and skills and confirms the formed competencies. These are the first steps on the path of professional development. Based on the results of training in the specialty "Roads", graduates are awarded the qualification of a civil engineer.

Broad-profile training of engineers in this specialty allows graduates to work successfully in design institutes, road construction departments, road repair and construction organizations, diagnostic centers for the operational state of roads, factories and enterprises producing road building materials and products.

They will be able to design roads using modern information technologies, conduct surveys using modern survey methods based on satellite positioning systems, build roads and other road facilities, plan and solve road maintenance issues, develop new and study traditional road materials, solve organizational and managerial problems at enterprises and organizations of the road industry.

Over the years, the department has trained hundreds of road engineers (including about 100 from among foreign citizens). Between 2004 and 2022 More than 2,200 engineers have been trained in the specialty "Roads". At the same time, more than 70 graduates received diplomas with honors.

The main directions of scientific research of the department

  1. development of new promising methods and devices of electron-ion technology for obtaining activated solid- and liquid-phase components of road concrete;
  2. development of resource-saving technologies for building and road-building materials based on system analysis and optimization of thermal energy costs;
  3. development of the foundations for the integrated industrialization of the production of asphalt concrete mixtures based on the centralized preparation of encapsulated bitumen, granulated asphalt binder and new gas technology at the asphalt plant.
  4. development of the problems of diagnostics of roads and their quality management.

In these scientific areas, 2 doctoral and 5 master's theses were defended, more than 10 patents for inventions were received (doctors of technical sciences: Busel A.V., Verenko V.A.; candidates of technical sciences: Kravchenko S.E., Evsikov N.I. , Akulich A.V., Bahovchuk A.P., Chistova T.A.

Many specialists who, having received academic degrees, work in higher educational institutions and research institutions of the Republic of Belarus, have studied and are studying in the postgraduate and doctoral studies of the department. So, for example, Busel A.V., Kashevskaya E.V. were doctoral students of the department; Kupriyanchik A.A., Yatsevich I.K., Kudelko M.Ya., Vdovichenko S.L., Shumchik K.F., Derman I.V., Rakovets L.D., Karlovich N.I., Verbilo I.N., Evsikov N.I., Bahovchuk A.P., Oderikho A.P., Zhidok A.M., Zhukovin M.G., Tsyganok Yu.M., Igoshkina A.Yu., Klimbasov A .V., Chistova T.A., Nesterovich I.V., Bogdanovich S.V., Budnichenko S.S. and etc.

Scientific research conducted at the department is related to the problems of the road industry and is aimed at ensuring the quality of road construction materials, improving the technology of construction, maintenance and repair of roads, improving the technical, technical, operational and transport characteristics of the road network, improving the environmental and transport safety of roads countries.

When conducting research and organizing the educational process, the department maintains close educational, scientific and industrial contacts with the State Enterprises "BeldorNII", "Beldorcenter", "Belgiprodor", universities of Belarus (BSU, BSTU, BelSUT, Belarusian-Russian, etc.), regional construction companies, highways, road construction trusts, road repair and construction departments and other organizations of the road sector.

The department also cooperates with educational institutions and scientific centers of Russia (MADI-GTU, SoyuzdorNII, RosdorNII), Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and others.
