On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the age of 79, Leonid Shevchuk, a Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor at the Departments of Strength of Materials and Theory of Elasticity and Mathematical Methods in Construction, passed away.
Leonid Ivanovich was a good teacher, who generously shared his knowledge with students, involved them in research work, and enthusiastically prepared them for the difficult but interesting path of becoming a civil engineer. Many young teachers who currently work at the university consider him to be their teacher in such a complex subject as "Strength of Materials."
Leonid Shevchuk authored more than 100 scientific articles, textbooks, and teaching materials. His works were published in reputable scientific journals in Russia and abroad. In particular, he developed a numerical model for testing asphalt concrete of various compositions and proposed a method for assessing the strength and durability of road pavements under various operating conditions. Leonid Ivanovich also developed a number of computer programs on various topics in the discipline of "Strength of Materials and Theory of Elasticity," which are now actively used by teachers and students in the educational process.
Leonid Ivanovich's high level of teaching was demonstrated by his students' first-place finishes in city competitions in strength of materials. He was highly respected within the department and served as an example and mentor to his younger colleagues.
The Belarusian National Technical University expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Leonid Shevchuk.
