Choosing with the Heart: Advice from Student Admissions Officers

How to prioritize? What to do when you're overcome with doubt? We asked students who accept applications daily and help applicants take one of the most important steps in their lives.

Student Katya has been working on the Admissions Office of the Faculty of Management Technologies and Humanities for two years. She admits that she genuinely enjoys contributing to the faculty and supporting students, as she remembers herself in their shoes:

"I'm entering my third year, but I still remember how nervous I was, along with my parents, when I applied. The student volunteers really helped me back then, telling me everything would be fine." Now I try to provide the same maximum dedication and support to current applicants. I always tell them: the most important thing in our lives is health. If you have a nervous breakdown over admissions, then neither your health nor your studies will be successful. Even on the fifth day of the campaign, many students still come to us with doubts. Many look solely at the passing scores, hoping to get in and get an education. But I always advise relying solely on your own feelings. It's impossible to contribute to your country and the economy working in a field you don't love. You need to choose what you truly love. And in September, I advise all first-year students to actively engage in student life – these are the most wonderful years, which will give you the best emotions and connections for a lifetime!

Sometimes applicants' doubts are not related to scores, but to banal stereotypes about the profession. Yulia, a student in the Faculty of Transport Communications, is serving on the committee for her first year. She shared how she often helps allay the fears of anxious parents:

"From my observations, the mothers of female applicants are the ones who are most worried right now. They come to us at the Faculty of Technical Consulting (FTC) and are afraid that after graduation their daughter will have to work constantly on the road, in dust and dirt. We immediately reassure the parents and explain that most graduates go on to work at large design institutes—they're clean, dry, comfortable, and very interesting. Sometimes, students submit their documents and say, 'We'll think about it and, if necessary, we'll take you back.' In such cases, we try to gently guide them, explaining in detail all the benefits of studying at our faculty and the prospects. We are always ready to consult and help everyone find their path!"

We remind you that tomorrow is the last day to accept applications for studies financed by the republican budget! If you're still hesitant or have been putting this step off, now is the time to cast aside all your fears. Make your choice, submit your documents, and become a BNTU student!
