Do the Right Thing: Faculty of Transport Communications

Поступай правильно: факультет транспортных коммуникаций

We continue to get acquainted with the faculties of the Belarusian National Technical University as part of the "Do the Right Thing" column.

What is the Faculty of Transport Communications?

The Faculty of Transport Communications (FTK) is the only faculty in the Republic of Belarus that trains specialists for the entire road construction industry. There is no road construction organization in the country where FTK graduates do not work. Moreover, in some organizations, graduates are much more than half.

Sergey Kravchenko, Dean of the Faculty of Transport Communications, spoke about the continuity of the classical engineering school and digital technologies.

The Faculty of Transport Communications trains specialists for road and bridge construction, as well as their comprehensive support: geodetic and technical. The faculty strives to combine innovative technologies with classical, fundamental fundamentals of road construction. At the faculty, students first learn the basics of the craft by trying to design a road, a bridge, or a road surface or transport structure, as before, on a millimeter paper with a pencil and a ruler. And only then, having mastered this, having understood the principles and sequence, they move on to software complexes. This approach allows the future specialist to analyze the solutions that the computer offers. This is how we gradually introduce and teach students information modeling, which ultimately allows them to make decisions about a construction project throughout its entire life cycle.

The Dean of the Faculty of Transport Communications also noted the role of the faculty in training personnel and developing the road industry.

The Faculty of Transport Communications not only provides the industry with highly qualified personnel, but also helps to solve the current problems facing the road and transport complex. The scientific departments of the faculty contribute to solving these problems. In addition, the faculty participates in the preparation of regulatory documents for the road complex, sometimes as a developer and sometimes as a reviewer, which, in my opinion, should ultimately improve not only the efficiency of road organizations, but also the level of convenience for road users.

Advice to applicants

I wish applicants to make the right and worthy choice of profession, which will allow them to bring the maximum possible benefit to their country and themselves personally, — said the Dean of the Faculty of Transport Communications.

 Student life at the faculty

In science, the faculty has already made itself known at the international level. In May 2026, at the International Student Olympiad among Road Engineering Universities, FTC student Nikita Kulish took third place in the individual competition, and in the team competition, the BNTU team achieved a worthy result and took third place. The team included Yuri Baltrushaitis, Nikita Kulish, and Savely Mitrofanov.

The sports achievements are also impressive. In the final of the BNTU student sports festival in mini-football, the team of the Faculty of Transport Communications won the second place, losing only to the Faculty of Energy in a spectacular and stubborn struggle.

The creative life of the faculty does not remain in the shadows. At the literary and poetry competition "Muse in the Technical Interior", the student of the Faculty of Transport Communications, Matvey Dmitriev, became the winner of the third degree in the category "Author" (poetry).

We are not stopping there. Ahead are new faculties, specialties, and stories about how BNTU trains professionals.
