Today, September 12, Minsk celebrated its 959th anniversary. BNTU traditionally took an active part in the city’s festivities – from commemorative ceremonies to large‑scale career guidance and cultural events.
The celebration of City Day for our university began with a solemn ceremony at the “Minsk – Hero City” stele. Wreaths and flowers from delegations of the capital were laid at the foot of the monument. On behalf of BNTU, the university’s rector, Sergei Kharitonchik, paid tribute to the memory of the liberation heroes.
In parallel with the official part, interactive platforms of BNTU began operating in two locations in the capital. The Republican project “Profession Festival – 2026” was launched at the Central Children’s Park named after M. Gorky. Representatives of the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology have prepared an interactive program for schoolchildren: the kids get to try their hand at being a mining surveying engineer, work with geodetic instruments, and identify minerals using magnets and chemical reagents.
At the same time, on Mulyavin Boulevard, activists from the BNTU Student Council, representatives of the Confucius Institute for Science and Technology, and cadets from the Military‑Technical Faculty have prepared a large entertainment program.
– Traditionally, BNTU organizes its location in the square on Mulyavin Boulevard. This year, the event is dedicated to Minsk as an international city, featuring more than 15 countries whose students study at our university, BNTU. They organize interactive activities together with our Belarusian youth with great interest. Therefore, I think this joint format of work will become a tradition, noted Irina Gud, head of the Center for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs.
In turn, Ainur Poshyeva, a first‑year foreign student at the Faculty of International Cooperation, said she is very pleased to take part in the celebration of Minsk City Day.
– I’ve been living in Belarus for a year now, and I really like it here. Minsk has truly become a second home for me. I’m fascinated by exploring the city’s interesting places, but what I admire most is BNTU. This university not only trains highly qualified specialists but also creates a vibrant atmosphere — just like today: it organizes festivals and entertainment programs for students and visitors to the capital, even on weekends.
As part of the “Minsk – the melody of our hearts” campaign, creative teams from the cultural affairs department of the Belarusian National Technical University prepared a rich program at the Central Children’s Park named after M. Gorky and on Mulyavin Boulevard. The concert venues featured soloist Alexander Kuznetsov of the folk wind orchestra, soloists from the vocal and variety studio “Loving Soul,” participants from the ballroom dance studio “Tango,” and the folk song ensemble “Kakhanachka.”
While music was playing at the venues, university students and staff also joined this important tradition. Representatives of youth organizations, students, and employees of BNTU laid flowers at the obelisk “Minsk – Hero City”.
“I’m proud of our beloved Minsk and how grandly and warmly it celebrates its holiday! Laying flowers at the “Minsk – Hero City” stele always evokes special, reverent emotions and reminds us of our strength and history. It’s great to see so many sincere people who come together on this day to show respect for their hometown,” said Anna Yashchembskaya, chairperson of the BNTU Student Council.
Students, employees, and creative groups – together they created an atmosphere of celebration in which respect for history harmoniously combines with a focus on the future. Happy City Day, dear Minsk!
