On Thursday, 17 September 2026, an excursion for participants of the IX Open Olympiad of Students "Step to Innovations" took place at the Instrument-Making Faculty. The event was aimed at identifying and developing students' creative abilities and interest in scientific activity, and contributed to career choice. Olympiad participants and teachers were able to obtain detailed information about the specialties of the instrument-making profile.
The first part of the event was held in the format of a presentation of the faculty, delivered by Elena Shcherbakova, Associate Professor of the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology. The second part was held in the format of a tour of the teaching laboratories.
Andrey Savchenko, Head of the Department of Instrument Design and Production, presented the areas related to 3D modelling, biomedicine, jewellery production and the design of complex equipment. At the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology, in the nanodiagnostics laboratory, Associate Professor Elena Shcherbakova demonstrated to the students the capabilities of atomic force microscopy.
Roman Ivanovich Vorobey, Head of the Department of Information and Measuring Equipment and Technologies, conducted a tour of the "Aercom" engineering and technical safety laboratory, where fire detectors, access control systems and video surveillance were demonstrated to the students. The laboratory hosts practical classes for students, as well as training and advanced training for specialists in the field of security systems.
