Today, November 1st, the Belarusian National Technical University was once again filled with the voices, smiles, and questions of curious prospective students, as the first Open Day (OD) of the academic year took place. From the early morning, the university welcomed guests: prospective students, their parents, and anyone who wants to get to know the life of the Polytechnic more closely. Let's take a look at the most striking moments in the photos and walk together through today's journey as an OD applicant.
Since the main goal of every applicant is to find the most suitable profession, this issue should be addressed first. Staff from the Institute of Integrated Forms of Education and Monitoring of Education (IIFEME) at BNTU provided assistance in this matter.
At the institute's stand, applicants could take professional assessment, which helped identify personal strengths, character traits, and ultimately, suitable professions and specialties.
– It was important for me to find a creative profession that would be in demand and useful to society. I'd previously considered architecture, and the professional assessment confirmed these expectations, confirming that the architecture profession suits me not only based on my preferences but also my personality, – shared one of the event's participants.
In addition to identifying a suitable profession, applicants immediately received advice on the specialties available at BNTU and general admission requirements. With this information, they were then directed to find the right faculty.
Applicants could continue their acquaintance with the Polytechnic University and student life at the faculty stands. To cover all aspects of the curriculum, staff and students were present, along with representatives from companies that hire staff. They helped applicants fully immerse themselves in their chosen specialty and understand the intricacies of each field.
This approach made it possible not only to communicate directly with applicants, but also to subsequently acquire motivated students who are already aware of all the processes and know exactly what they want from their studies.
– It's great to see how the students who came to our open day later become our students. We have many such cases – about 30% of applicants bring their documents directly to us after the event. These are motivated students who have made a conscious choice, – shared Vladimir Stasevich, Head of Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Ecology.
The most common question from parents who came with applicants was "Where will the graduate work after completing their studies?". Both faculty representatives and representatives from enterprises and government organizations, to which Polytechnic graduates are annually assigned, provided answers to this question.
Polytechnic University offers its students not only a high-quality education but also the opportunity to develop their potential as performers, event organizers, opinion leaders, or volunteer activists. For example, the team from the BNTU Department of Culture was on hand to ensure a positive atmosphere today. Vibrant performances, music, and creative acts created a lively and inspiring atmosphere, and the most daring applicants had the opportunity to communicate with the team members at this stage to find out how to join them after admission.
The BNTU Student Council, the BNTU Primary Student Trade Union, and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union were also represented at the event. Activists of these youth structures create large-scale events, solve youth policy issues and set the tone for the entire student life of the university.At their stands, they presented their projects, opportunities for students, and invited students to join their youth initiatives.
Of particular interest was the BNTU Confucius Institute for Science and Technology platform, where visitors could learn about international programs, Chinese language learning, and cultural exchanges. For example, Polytechnic University guests had the opportunity to try their hand at learning and writing Chinese hieroglyphs and the traditional Chinese art of handkerchief twirling.
To restore strength after a busy program, a field kitchen and a buffet with food from the nutrition center worked on the territory. The guests were treated to authentic soldier's porridge and hot tea, creating a cozy and caring atmosphere.
The BNTU Media Center prepared a fascinating quiz especially for prospective students on Open Day. Participants could test their knowledge of the university's history, traditions, and student life, and win memorable gifts at the end of the competition.
A photo booth with instant printing was also available throughout the day, allowing applicants to take home not only knowledge and information about their future profession, but also a photo to remember that day.
After completing the key steps to determine their future education, applicants had the opportunity to prepare for admission. This was possible right at the DOD venue, as the organizers had prepared a series of consultations on the creative entrance tests taken at BNTU. Of course, they are most relevant for future architects, but even if someone plans to become a surveyor or builder, it is always a good idea to learn something new, such as drafting or composition.
This is the journey of today's applicants, whom we hope to see again at the Polytechnic University during the 2026 admissions campaign.
