The training of military engineers at the military department of the BPI began in the 30s of the last century.
From February 1945 to February 1948 the enrollment of students in military training amounted to 150 people, and from 1948 to 1953 it was already 200 people.
The lesson was held in the educational buildings of the BPI. During these years, students began to travel to training camps in military units where classes were held with weapons and military equipment in the field. After the training camp, the students took the final exam and they were certified for officer positions. The head of the department (in the period 1945 - 1948) was Colonel Zhiganov Ivan Vasilyevich. Training profile - platoon commander and squad leader of sapper units and units.
Subsequently, the heads of departments were Colonel Rui N.A. (1948-1953), Major General Komarov N.P. (1953-1961), Colonel Kiryushchenko I.T. (1961-1969), Colonel Mozzhukhin I.A. (1969-1973).
In the course of reforming the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus in 2003, the military department at BNTU was reorganized into the military-technical faculty at BNTU, where the department of "Military engineering training" was formed on the basis of the engineering cycle.
The Department of "Military Engineering Training" trains officers of the engineering troops.
Training of officers is carried out on a full-time basis. The term of study is 4 years.
On August 1, 2003, at the military-technical faculty at BNTU, the department "Military engineering training" began training career officers in the specialty (specialization): 1-36 11 01 "Lifting and transport, construction, road machinery and equipment", direction 1- 36 11 01- 04 "Lifting and transport, construction, road machinery and equipment (management of engineering troops)".
Since August 2021, majoring in: "Innovative equipment for the construction complex", the direction of the specialty "Innovative equipment for the construction complex (management of engineering troops)".
Since August 2023 in the specialty (profiling): 6-05-0715-07 "Operation of ground transport and technological machines and complexes (road construction machines and special-purpose equipment)"
The training of reserve officers and junior commanders from among students was continued.
The Department of "Military Engineering Training" is organized on the basis of the cycle of military engineering training of the Department of Military Training of the BPI, which graduates includes two cycles. Conducts training of engineering troops for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Border Committee.
At the department, cadets receive modern knowledge in the fields of activity: personnel management of the engineering troops unit, organization of engineering support tasks, operation of engineering weapons, personnel training.
The material and technical base makes it possible to organize the training of specialists qualitatively, at the modern level.
In addition to the theoretical and practical training of cadets at the department, training is improved in practice and internships.
The educational process uses modern engineering tools, instruments and equipment, specialized classrooms and laboratories, computer classes equipped with modern PCs, a variety of teaching aids, electronic training and testing programs, electronic simulators in all disciplines.
