The Department of Sports was established on November 1, 2010 , in connection with the formation of the Sports and Technical Faculty. This is the first department in Belarus that carries out the educational process in the discipline "Physical Education" of the sports educational department in institutions of higher education
The department provides training and participation of student-athletes, undergraduates and graduate students with high sports qualifications in the Republican Universiade, championships and Cups of the Republic of Belarus, various international competitions. It supports 86 training groups, including 39 national teams, in 29 sports. Among the students enrolled in various faculties are two international masters of sports, 29 masters of sports, and 119 candidate masters of sports. More than 262 athletes hold the first sports category, and 21 student-athletes are members of national teams. Organizes and conducts mass sports and health-improving work among students and employees of BNTU.
A great contribution to the development of student sports at BNTU was made by highly qualified specialists in the field of physical culture and sports, who worked at the department for different years: Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Belarus, Dean of the Sports and Technical Faculty I.V. Kornilovich (chess), candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor L.A. Yusupova (sports aerobics), head coach of the national kayaking and canoeing team E.K. Chuchkevich (kayaking and canoeing), A.S. Zhirkevich (men's handball), M.Yu. Mishensky (football, futsal men), A.V. Dremach (weightlifting, kettlebell lifting), I.S. Nezhenets (swimming, triathlon).
The results of the BNTU performance in the Republican Universiade: 2010-2012 - 2nd place, 2013 - 3rd place, 2014 - 4th place, 2015-2016 - 2nd place, 2017 - 3rd place, 2018-2019 - 2nd place, 2020-2021 - 3rd place, 2022 – 2nd place, 2023/2024 – 1st place, 2024/2025 – 1st place.
Our students and graduates adequately represent the Republic of Belarus at the European and World Championships, the World Summer and Winter Universiades, are participants in the Olympic Games, winners and prize-winners of the World and European Championships:

Evgeny Tikhontsov (STF) – weightlifting, bronze medalist at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, participant in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Anton Smolsky (PSF) - biathlon, silver medalist of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing , participant of the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Winner of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus award in the nomination "Athlete of the Year" (2025).
Nikita Tsmyg (FTUG, 2020) - swimming, participant of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 2020 in Tokyo (carried the state flag of the Republic of Belarus at the opening ceremony of the games).
Alexander Makarenko (STF, 2019) - weightlifting, bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Pavel Khodasevich (STF, 2019) – weightlifter, participant of the 2012 Olympic Games in London and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
Victor Staselovich (ATF, 2018) - swimming, participant of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Vasilisa Marzalyuk (MIDO, 2017) – freestyle wrestling, participant in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and 2020 in Tokyo.
Irina Vaskovskaya (MIDO, 2017) - athletics (triple jump), participant in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Andrey Aryamnov (STF, 2016) - weightlifting, Olympic champion of the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Anastasia Duborezova (MIDO, 2012) - biathlon, participant of the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.
Alexandra Tarasova (FTUG, 2012) - basketball, participant of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The department actively cooperates with sports federations, clubs, organizations and institutions (SDYUSHOR, DYUSSH, RTSOP, RGUOR, national teams) in various sports to provide career guidance for young people to enter BNTU and prepare a sports reserve for BNTU teams.
Students-athletes of the Belarusian National Technical University, who are members of the national teams of the Republic of Belarus, team sports clubs playing in the major leagues, are provided with an individual training schedule.
Currently, the department employs 14 full-time teachers and 11 part-time teachers, including: 3 candidates of science, associate professors, 1 Honored Master of Sports, 2 Honored Trainers, 2 Masters of Sports of International Class, 18 Masters of Sports.
