The department hosts the "Acoustics and Special Materials" research laboratory.
Key research areas of the department and laboratory include:
The department offers graduate programs in:
In late 2017, faculty member A.E. Moiseychik successfully defended the dissertation "Computational-Experimental Analysis of Deformation and Failure of Steel Elements with Stress Concentrators Due to Deformation Heat Evolution" for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences under the supervision of Y.V. Vasilevich, Head of the Department, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor.
BNTU has an open council for dissertation defense, chaired by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus. The council is led by Professor Y.V. Vasilevich, Head of the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials.
Each February, BNTU hosts the International Scientific and Technical Conference on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The International Journal "Theoretical and Applied Mechanics," published at BNTU, is listed in the VAK Republic of Belarus for publishing scientific articles by graduate students, doctoral candidates, degree seekers, faculty, researchers, and other scholars.
The department places great emphasis on student research and nurturing young talent.
Under faculty supervision, students participate in the annual Republican Competition of Scientific Works and present papers at scientific and technical conferences.
The department also organizes university-wide Olympiads annually in Theoretical Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials (Strength of Materials), with winners advancing to International and Republican Olympiads.
