The fourth day of admissions brought the university another [I] students who achieved perfect scores. Graduates from relevant programs also maintain strong interest in the university: [F] engineering students and [G] pedagogical graduates submitted their applications today. [H] graduates of the children's technology park have also been added to the applicant list.
The admissions campaign is a challenging time for both applicants and their parents. We spoke with Natalia Pylinskaya, Head of the Department of Social, Pedagogical, and Psychological Services at the BNTU Center for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs, about how to cope with stress:
"Anxiety during the application process and waiting for results will be normal and natural, but students and their families are quite capable of controlling their emotions."
The specialist noted that a low level of anxiety helps mobilize, mobilize all their resources to achieve their desired goal, and sets the mood for intense mental activity. But if stress is overwhelming, it's important to pay attention to the physiological manifestations of anxiety—most often, rapid breathing or slight chills.
"Breathing practices can help relieve tension. A simple exercise can help normalize your breathing rhythm: breathe slowly and deeply for several minutes. To keep your breathing even, you need to silently count: inhale for three, exhale for three. Remember: to mobilize yourself and get ready for work, the inhalation should be longer than the exhalation, and to relax, conversely, the exhalation should be relaxing, long, and calming, Natalya Alekseevna shared her life hacks.
In addition to breathing, the psychologist recommended using muscle relaxation and grounding techniques:
Feel support in your legs, or while sitting in a chair, look around the room and find several objects of the same color, or focus your attention on an object, silently describing its color, shape, and texture. This will bring your attention back from your thoughts to reality. If possible, it's best to get some fresh air, drink some water, and notice how it moves through your body. You can also wet your forehead and wrists with cold water.
To stay focused, applicants need to properly organize their day, get adequate sleep, eat a varied and sufficient diet, get plenty of fresh air, and avoid panicking.
"It's crucial to believe in yourself and think positively. A positive attitude and the right mindset play a huge role. Don't take on too much – do what you can handle!" Natalya Alekseyevna advised.
During this difficult period, the specialist advised parents to pay special attention to their behavior, as they have the greatest influence on their child's emotional state:
"I would like to recommend to parents, first and foremost, to set themselves up for a positive and desired outcome! Believe in your child's success, thereby supporting their self-confidence. Create a calm, welcoming work environment at home and provide comfortable conditions for their daily activities." The psychologist also strongly recommended that families consider a "backup plan" in advance in case of unforeseen circumstances:
"Of course, various scenarios are possible when applying to a university. Alternatively, they could enroll in a specialized secondary school, apply for a different major, or enroll in a distance learning program where admissions are delayed. It's essential to have a "backup plan" in mind. If suddenly "things don't go according to plan," you'll already have another option prepared. This is a great way to conserve energy, minimize stress, and provide clarity in further steps to achieve your goal."
In conclusion, Natalya Alekseyevna wished the parents immense patience and warm understanding within the family, and to the recent school and college graduates, she wished them the success of achieving all their goals and proudly wearing the title of BNTU student!
