On July 9, the Digital Engineering Competence Center of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering hosted a student delegation from the Saint Petersburg Mining University. The visit marked an important step in strengthening interuniversity ties and sharing experiences in advanced engineering solutions.
The guests were given a tour of the center's laboratory facilities. The students had the unique opportunity to see modern equipment in action, which is used both in the classroom and for research. In particular, the guests' attention was drawn to the high-tech CAD/CAM workstations, which enable the full cycle of digital design and the preparation of control programs for CNC machines.
The future engineers were particularly interested in the rigs for testing additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies and the computer-aided engineering (CAE) modules, which can predict the behavior of parts and structures under load even before physical production begins.
The key focus of the meeting was a discussion of research areas and prospects for long-term collaboration. The parties discussed in detail the potential for joint projects in the field of process optimization and the promising field of digital twinning.
The faculty members provided a detailed description of the educational courses they offer, the specifics of their laboratory facilities, and provided specific examples of the successful implementation of university developments in the real-world industrial sector. Students from St. Petersburg, in turn, shared their experiences and teaching approaches adopted at their university, sparking a lively discussion about the differences and similarities between engineering schools.
