Department : Sports Engineering

The Department of Sports Engineering was established in November 2010 and is the only department in the universities of the CIS countries that purposefully trains engineering personnel for the field of physical culture and sports.

TRAINING OF ENGINEERING STAFF

Training of engineers at the department is carried out in two specialties: 1-60 01 01 "Technical support for the operation of sports facilities"; 1-60 02 02 "Production and design of sports equipment." At sports facilities, graduates of the department perform work related to the operation and maintenance of modern systems for dispatching technological processes, electronic refereeing and document management systems, air conditioning systems for ice rinks and audiovisual complexes. Specialists trained by the department, apart from the sports industry, are in demand at instrument-making enterprises, in research departments of technoparks and small businesses.

The training of engineers in the specialty 1-60 01 01 is due to the need for specialists with knowledge and understanding not only of the operation of individual engineering systems, but of the entire engineering infrastructure of sports facilities, which, in turn, increases the efficiency of facilities operation. The department provides an opportunity for students to learn and apply theoretical material directly in practical activities during practical classes, which are held on the basis of sports facilities. Cooperation with leading specialists of the country's sports facilities, the opening of branches of the graduating department on the basis of MKSK "Minsk-Arena" and LLC "Innovative Company" Intes "allow us to teach many special disciplines at a high professional level, to introduce the accumulated engineering experience into the educational process, improving the quality of training for young professionals. Minsk-Arena is a unique launching pad for the training of sports engineers with professional competencies that allow them to solve search, analytical, research, design and forecasting tasks at a high level.

Education in the specialty 1-60 02 02 includes the study of sensory technology, biomechanics, anatomy, electronics, software. The sport of high achievements is a complex multi-stage and long-term process of training an athlete, in which an important role is played by technical means for assessing and improving various aspects of the preparedness of the participants in the training process. To ensure the achievement of maximum results, the use of information-measuring systems during the recovery and rehabilitation of athletes is also an objective necessity. The task of specialists preparing in this area, on the one hand, is to maximize the potential of the developed sports technologies and existing sports equipment, on the other hand, to introduce new technical means into operation.

Since 2017, within the framework of interstate and interuniversity agreements, foreign citizens from Russia, China, and Turkmenistan have been studying at the department.

Over ten years of work at the Department of Sports Engineering, more than 400 specialists have been trained with system integral knowledge in the field of engineering, theory and methodology of sports, biomechanics and ergonomics of sports, digital information technologies. Many of the graduates began and continue their professional careers at the leading domestic sports facilities: the Minsk Arena, the Chizhovka Arena, the Dynamo and Borisov Arena football stadiums, the Sports Palace, etc.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

In the personnel training system, an important place is given to research work and innovation. Scientific research is focused on the development and implementation of engineering solutions in the process of training and rehabilitation of athletes, the operation of sports and recreation complexes and facilities. Students participate together with teachers and specialists of educational and sports institutions in the development of new simulators, training devices, special equipment and sports products. Undergraduates and graduate students of the graduating department, using modern equipment, conduct fundamental and applied research within the framework of scientific support of the State programs for the development of physical culture and sports in the Republic of Belarus, as well as work is being carried out on scientific and methodological support for the training of athletes of national teams and national teams in priority sports. The most creative students of the department are involved in the scientific and technical support of the educational and training process of highly qualified student-athletes who are educated at BNTU, provide advice to coaches and athletes in the operation of sports and technological equipment, information and measuring equipment, simulators and sports equipment.

In the classroom and in scientific research, students, graduate students and teachers of the department use the most modern hardware and software systems: to assess the support interactions of athletes - AIC “Tekscan (USA); for assessing the bioelectrical activity of muscles - APK "Delsis" (USA); for "video capture of movements" and building models of movements of athletes in three-dimensional space - APK "Oualisys" (Sweden); for diagnosing the features of the biomechanics of the foot and creating 3D models of individual orthoses - APK "Orthema" (Switzerland). Repeatedly undergraduates of the department became laureates of republican competitions of student scientific works, as well as owners of grants from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.

The teachers of the department took an active part in the creation of a new scientific specialty 05.11.19 - Methods and means of technical support of physical culture and sports (the branch of science - technical, pedagogical), opened in 2013 by the Decree of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus. Graduates of the master's program, oriented to the continuation of research activities, annually enter postgraduate studies in this specialty.

In order to form innovative approaches to sports technologies and their practical use in training specialists for the field of physical culture and sports, in 2019, at the initiative of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Education, a scientific and educational cluster "Smart technologies in sports" was created, which included the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture and Belarusian National Technical University. On the basis of the cluster, training sessions are conducted, as well as scientific research of students, undergraduates, graduate students and teachers of the department.
