«BNTU – a second home»: we continue to get to know new Turkmen students
Today, students from Turkmenistan are studying at BNTU – and their number is growing every year. The students are mastering a wide range of specialties: from economics and business administration to engineering, architecture, and sports and technical fields. We continue our series and get to know new heroes – bright, talented, and already in love with Belarus. Today, we focus on two Turkmen students.
The first heroine is Zohre Dzhumakova.
Zohre enrolled in the Faculty of Marketing, Management, and Entrepreneurship (FMME) and from the very first days of her studies, she actively immerses herself in Belarusian culture. The girl told us why she chose Belarus and what attracts her most in the new country.
– I’m very interested in learning as much as possible about your country, because we also have very deep‑rooted traditions in Turkmenistan, and it’s always fascinating to compare and discover something new. What I’d like to learn most of all is about your traditional holidays, especially those that are connected with nature or history, such as Kupalye. We have our own ancient rituals, and I’m curious about how different they are, or perhaps whether they overlap in some way with Belarusian ones.
The theme of family occupies a special place in her story.
– In Turkmenistan, family is the most important thing, and hospitality is in our blood. I would like to know how strong these values are among Belarusians, how it is customary to greet guests, and what traditions are associated with family dinners or weddings.
At the moment, Zohre is most impressed by the food.
– I’ve already tried draniki, and it was very tasty! But I’m interested in learning about your other traditional dishes, especially those that are prepared for holidays, and what drinks are popular. In general, I want to not just read about the culture, but to experience it, to see how it manifests itself in the everyday life of Belarusians, and perhaps even to take part in some traditional events.
An interesting fact about Zohra:
– I can’t stand sitting in one place doing nothing. I constantly need to develop myself, learn something new, and move forward toward my goals. I really love cooking, especially our traditional dishes.
The second hero is Parakhadov Ebu Bekir.
Ebu Bekir chose the Faculty of Energy (FE) and said that Belarus attracted him with its high quality of education, beautiful nature, and safe environment. The student was also drawn to the fact that the diploma from BNTU is recognized in many countries around the world.
– BNTU is the country’s leading technical university with a rich history. I was attracted by the modern laboratories, the strong teaching staff, and the wide range of technical specialties.
The young man’s interest in the technical field began to take shape a long time ago.
– Since childhood, I’ve loved assembling complex construction sets and figuring out how different mechanisms work. I believe that’s what led me to this university and helped me choose engineering as a profession.
Ebu Bekir starts his studies with great motivation and a desire to get into student life as quickly as possible, and he also leaves sincere wishes for future applicants:
– Don’t be afraid to change your environment and move. Learn basic Russian while you’re still at home, be active, and don’t hesitate to ask questions to teachers and upperclassmen — they’ll always help you!
