BNTU students took part in the international Olympiad in the discipline "Theoretical Mechanics" for the first time

Студенты БНТУ впервые приняли участие в международной олимпиаде по дисциплине «Теоретическая механика»

Less than a week has passed since students from the Belarusian National Technical University successfully competed in the V International Open Internet Olympiad in the discipline "Strength of Materials" among students from higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan and abroad, which was held on March 18, 2026, by the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

Now we'll discuss the successful performance of our students in the V Open International Internet Olympiad in Theoretical Mechanics, which was held by the Turkmen State Power Engineering Institute on March 25-26, 2026. This was the first time BNTU students participated in this Olympiad.

Six students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military Technical Faculty and the Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics represented BNTU in the Olympiad (the competition is held in both individual and team competitions).

Like the previous one, this online Olympiad was held on the ZOOM platform with a video surveillance system enabled to monitor the participants' actions throughout the entire time allotted for solving the problems. The organization and preparation of our students was led by the Department of Theoretical Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials: Department Head Eugen Krushevski, Associate Professor Larysa Bialiatskaya, and Senior Lecturer Maryna Myshkavets.

The technical regulations for this Olympiad were virtually identical to the previous one, for the "Strength of Materials" discipline. However, the unclear team competition regulations, the hassle of connecting to the platform on the day of the team competition (the organizers themselves connected late, the conditions of the problems appeared in the chat with 15 minutes late), and the very small time limit (60 minutes) left some traces in the intermediate performance of the BNTU team.

Nevertheless, Ilya Sivyi, a student of the mechanical engineering faculty (group 10309124), won a 3rd degree Diploma in the individual competition (he was just 1 point short of a 2nd degree Diploma), leaving behind 650 participants from 17 countries (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Romania, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, South Sudan, India, USA, Azerbaijan, Malaysia ).

We congratulate our participants and, in particular, our winner, and wish them further success in their studies and scientific endeavors!
