In the field of science, 2024 was also a productive year for BNTU.We offer you to get acquainted with 10 significant results of the Polytechnic's scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activities in 2024.
In 2024, the BNTU Polytechnic Scientific and Technological Park supplied 2,090 knee joint endoprostheses and 20 implantation systems to medical institutions. This was reported to the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on September 27 at an exhibition held within the framework of the "open microphone" format.
For reference: the Knee Joint Endoprosthesis medical device was created within the framework of the innovative project "Development and creation of high-tech production of medical devices and equipment for cardiovascular operations, osteosynthesis and knee joint operations, for the treatment of skin oncological diseases and the performance of high-strength filling joints in dentistry" in collaboration with the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics. The knee arthroplasty was first implanted on November 28, 2022.

Within the framework of the aforementioned exhibition, the President of the Republic of Belarus was also presented with the development of the BNTU Research Center for Optical Materials and Technologies - saturating absorbers based on magnesium−aluminum spinel doped with cobalt ions. Their main field of application is miniature lasers operating in the spectral range of 1.5–1.6 microns, which is safe for the organs of vision.
For reference: miniature lasers are used in complex rangefinding systems (for example, as a sight for determining the distance to remote objects) and optical location (for example, by aerial UAVs during laser probing).
The BNTU sample provides all the required characteristics of a pulse emitter: energy, duration, laser pulse repetition rate and high stability.

As part of the implementation of the State Scientific Research Program (SSRP) "Materials Science, New Materials and Technologies" for 2021-2025, the industry research laboratory of innovative devices for MEMS technologies has developed a MEMS tilt angle sensor in a hybrid design. It is intended for use in complex navigation systems in aviation, shipbuilding, positioning systems and is manufactured using innovative laser processing technology.
The sensors have been successfully tested at Minsk Research Institute of Radio Materials. In 2024, the development was presented at the “My Belarus” exhibition site at Minsk International Exhibition Center.


In 2024, Andrei Ponasenko, Director of the Belarusian-Uzbek Intersectoral Institute of Applied Technical Qualifications, successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in technical sciences at Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology in Tashkent. This is the first defense of scientists from the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The title of "Best Expert of the Year" in the Republic of Belarus was awarded to the head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Mechanical Technological Faculty, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of BNTU Valery Konstantinov. To determine the winners, the work of 850 experts who completed the preparation of 2,345 expert opinions was analyzed and assessed.

BNTU at the competition of innovative projects
Third place in the nomination "Best Innovative Project" of the XV Republican Competition of Innovative Projects was awarded to the work "Technical solution for increasing the corrosion resistance of reinforcing bars to atmospheric rust when the bars are not protected from atmospheric influences." The authors are Ksenia Yakushenko, Deputy Rector for Research at BNTU, Igor Kachanov, Head of the Department of Hydrotechnical and energy construction, water transport and hydraulics of the Faculty of Energy Construction, Igor Shatalov and Vyacheslav Vlasov, senior lecturers of the Department, Sergey Lenkevich, Assistant Professor, Konstantin Bykov and Vitaly Glazov, undergraduates of the Department.
The peculiarity of the project and its practical significance for Belarus lies in the creation of a new way to protect fittings from rust: a special mixture of water and bentonite clay is applied to the fittings, which, after drying, forms a thin but durable film that does not allow air to pass through. Without air access, the fittings do not rust, which experiments have confirmed.

BNTU among the winners of the competition "100 ideas for Belarus"
The innovative project "Hydrogen Engine" became the winner in the nomination "Energy" of the competition "100 ideas for Belarus". The author of the project is a student of the Automotive and tractor faculty Vladislav Shpilevsky, the scientific supervisor is associate professor of the department "Technical operation of vehicles", PhD of technical sciences Igor Serebryakov.
The installation is designed to convert internal combustion engines to run on hydrogen. The advantages are to increase the environmental friendliness of the internal combustion engine.

The best youth startup of the Union State
As part of the XIII Forum of Universities of Engineering and Technology of the Union State, held at Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R. E. Alekseev, the BNTU team won the competition "The best youth startup of the Union State".
The project "Technology and equipment for roof management in longwalls during development of stratified deposits" was prepared by students of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Ecology Nikolay Rastorguev, Daniil Karpovich and Nikita Katkom. The scientific supervisors are the Dean of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Ecology Andrey Kologrivko and the Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mining Machines Grigory Basalai.
The development is aimed at designing a specialized module that will ensure safe mining operations, reduce costs and eliminate blasting operations in mines.

The best thesis and research work of students in the field of management and quality control
Every year, at the initiative of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, a competition is held to improve the level of training of specialists in the field of management and quality control, as well as to intensify and encourage educational, scientific and applied activities in this field. In 2024, the 18th competition "The best thesis and research work of students in the field of management and quality control" was announced.
According to the results of the competition in the nomination "The best research work in the field of quality management", the winner was a graduate of the Department of Standardization, Metrology and Information Systems of BNTU Kirill Parfenya (scientific supervisor - head of the Department of Standardization, Metrology and Information Systems, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Pavel Serenkov).

The BNTU repository has improved its position in the world ranking
The BNTU repository has improved its position in the global rating of Transparent Ranking of Repositories from the 18th edition of the rating for December 2024. In the general list (all repositories), which includes 4,640 repositories, electronic archives, and electronic libraries, the BNTU repository rose to 27th place, in the list of institutional repositories - to 17th place among 4,494 other resources.
For reference: The Transparent Ranking of Repositories, like the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab research group. Its methodology is based on an indicator of the number of documents hosted in open access repositories and indexed by Google Scholar. This evaluates the degree of openness of academic resources and their integration into the information space.
Currently, the BNTU repository includes more than 127,518 documents: monographs, methodological handbooks, electronic educational and methodological complexes, textbooks and teaching handbooks, scientific articles, research reports, dissertation abstracts, dissertations, patents, conference materials, graphic works, competition and exhibition projects, etc.

Science at Polytechnic University does not stand still, and in 2025 new goals are being set, which we are sure will be achieved thanks to the work of our scientists.
