Department : Technical Physics

The history of the department in the first post-war years is associated with the famous name of Associate Professor Ivan Ivanovich Verbitsky, the head of the department at that time. After him, the department was headed by Associate Professor Nikolai Vasilyevich Afanasyev, who continued to lead it until the 1970s. Further leadership of the department in 1973 was taken over by Associate Professor Alexey Georgievich Goloveiko. In 1984, the leadership of the department passed to Professor Viktor Grigoryevich Sevastyanenko. The successful work of this head of the department continued until 1999, after which the temporary leadership of the department was taken over by Associate Professor of the department, Dean of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics Rostislav Arsenyevich Puko. Soon he was replaced by Associate Professor Evgeny Evgenievich Trofimenko, who headed the department until March 2009. After the appointment of Associate Professor Evgeny Evgenievich Trofimenko as Dean of the Institute of Applied Physics and Technology, Associate Professor Igor Anatolyevich Khorunzhiy was elected Head of the Department. Since 2024 to the present, the department has been headed by Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Svetlana Mikhailovna Kachan. Over the years, the department had different names. "Department of Energy Physics", "Department of Physics No. 2", "Department of Technical Physics" - these are the names assigned to the department in different periods of activity in accordance with the various tasks that were set for it. The latest name of the department reflects the new focus of its scientific, methodological and educational activities.

The staff of the department proceeds from the fact that the course of physics, remaining a basic general scientific discipline, should be more harmoniously oriented towards the technical profile of the university. First of all, this concerns the content of laboratory practical training. The laboratory base created at the department optimally combines traditional laboratory practical training in mechanics and thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics and atomic physics with new achievements in the methods of teaching physics. The new laboratory educational base and a high degree of its computerization formed the basis for a significant improvement of the educational process. The department has developed and implemented new active methods of teaching students based on modern computer technologies in education. At present, this activity of the department continues. Along with its own development programs of the department, significant work was carried out through the Ministry of Education. Professor Goloveiko A.G. headed the scientific and methodological association of physics teachers of the republic's universities for many years. At the same time, the Department of Technical Physics was the basic department of technical universities.

The department has repeatedly acted as the organizer of republican conferences, meetings and seminars. The department makes a significant contribution to the development of the faculty of information technology and robotics. One of the best demonstration classes on mathematical modeling of physical processes in BNTU, created by the department, was transferred to the faculty for development. The department also provides significant personnel support to the faculty. For many years, the dean of the faculty was associate professor of the department R.A. Puko. Associate professors of the department L.E. Sandrigailo, G.N. Blinkov, D.A. Rusakevich worked as deputy deans for a number of years. At present, 16 teachers work at the department of technical physics on a permanent and part-time basis, including 4 professors, 9 associate professors, 2 senior teachers and an assistant. The professional level and creative potential of the teaching staff are sufficient to ensure the educational process at a modern level, as well as to develop new educational technologies and implement them in practice.
