Specialties from the inside: where to train IT specialists of the new generation

Специальности изнутри: где готовят IT-специалистов нового поколения

Information technology has penetrated all areas of life: from designing complex engineering structures to banking calculations. The Belarusian National Technical University trains professionals who not only write code, but also create digital solutions for real production and the financial sector. We continue to tell about the specialties of the BNTU. The focus is on the specialty "Information Systems and Technologies. Information Systems and Technologies in Design and Production" at the Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics and the specialty "Information Systems and Technologies. Information Systems and Technologies (in the Banking Sector)" at the Faculty of Marketing, Management, and Entrepreneurship.

Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics

The educational process at FITR is an integration of education, production, and science, which provides graduates with the opportunity to work in a wide variety of economic sectors and allows them to become leading specialists in their field. Artem Baryshev, a senior lecturer at the Department of Software for Information Systems and Technologies, spoke in more detail about the specialty. He shared that the department accompanies students from the first line to the graduation ceremony, helping them to master not only classical programming, but also engineering modeling.

The main difference of the specialty "Information Systems and Technologies. Information Systems and Technologies in Design and Production" from the related "Software Engineering" – in-depth study of CAD/CAM/CAE systems – means of automation of design and technological preparation of production, CALS technologies and PDM/PLM-systems of product lifecycle management, engineering graphics and mathematical modeling of processes and methods of decision-making and data management.

 – The graduate receives a universal set of competencies: he can work both as a classic programmer and as a system analyst, QA engineer, business analyst, DevOps engineer or design engineer. All doors to the IT field are literally opening before him, – emphasized Artem Baryshev.

During the study, students undergo practical training at such industry flagships as OJSC BelAZ, OJSC Management Company of the Minsk Motor Plant Holding, MTZ, OJSC Planar, OJSC Peleng, OJSC Agat - Electromechanical Plant and CJSC Belhard. Many students after the pre-diploma practice remain to work in these organizations, gaining invaluable experience in solving real-life problems.

Faculty of Marketing, Management, and Entrepreneurship

Head of the Department of Trade and Advertising Equipment Alexey Ermakov said that graduates who have studied the specialty "Information systems and technologies. Information systems and technologies (in the banking sector)" become specialists who not only support the information systems of banks, but also develop innovative solutions, ensure data security and development of digital services for millions of users.

The first students of this specialization will graduate from the university in 2027, but the bases for their practical training have already been identified. These include leading financial and scientific organizations in Belarus, such as the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian Interbank Settlement Center, Belarusbank, Belgazprombank, Sberbank, and the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Graduates will be able to pursue careers as programmers, database analysts, network and server administrators, information security specialists, and IT infrastructure support engineers. In addition to the standard set of IT subjects (algorithmics, object-oriented programming, operating systems, computer networks, and databases), students also study financial specifics in depth, according to Alexey Igorevich.

The curriculum includes a wide range of relevant and useful disciplines for future specialists: "Money and Monetary Systems," "Modernization of Financial Markets and Transformation of Financial Institutions," "Banking and Payment Systems," "Blockchain in E-commerce," "Development of Payment Services in the Digital Economy," "New Financial Technologies Based on Big Data," and "Credit Programs and Crisis Management in the Banking Sector."

This unique combination of technical and economic knowledge makes the program truly exceptional.

I really like my major, although to be honest, when I first started studying, I didn't think it would be so interesting. I want to thank our professors, who are always dedicated to our development and provide relevant assignments that truly help us learn something new. I also find it fascinating to study banking and understand how all the processes work, as the material is explained in a clear and practical manner. I appreciate that we have both technical and economic subjects, which keeps our studies diverse and prevents us from getting bored. I have never regretted that I chose this particular specialty," said Milena Bliznet, a 3rd–year student at the Moscow State Medical University.

Both specialties provide a solid foundation in IT, but with different accents: at FITR you get acquainted with digital manufacturing and engineering modeling, at FMMP you master financial technologies and banking automation. In both cases, you will have a rich study, practice at leading enterprises and wide career opportunities.
