BNTU and SPbPU Establish a Joint Research Laboratory “Information Technologies in Engineering Problems and Education”

БНТУ и СПбПУ создадут совместную научно-исследовательскую лабораторию

In early June 2026, Belarusian National Technical University and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University signed an agreement on the establishment of a joint research laboratory titled “Information Technologies in Engineering Problems and Education.”

The laboratory will conduct fundamental and applied research in three key areas: the development and application of machine learning technologies and methods in engineering problems and the educational process; 3D modeling in automated systems and complexes; and the prediction of the optical response of nanostructures based on morphological and topological characteristics using neural network models.

The following units have been appointed responsible for implementing the joint research activities: on behalf of BNTU — the Faculty of Information Technologies and Robotics, Department of Robotic Systems, headed by Aleksei V. Borodulya, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor; on behalf of SPbPU — the Higher School of Artificial Intelligence Technologies, Research Laboratory “Supercomputer Technologies and Machine Learning,” headed by Vladimir S. Zaborovsky, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.

The main tasks of the laboratory include:

  • planning and conducting joint experiments;
  • analyzing the results obtained, preparing scientific publications and applications for international grants;
  • organizing mutual consultations, joint scientific seminars and participation in international conferences;
  • providing internship opportunities for employees of both parties.

The establishment of the laboratory will be an important step in strengthening scientific ties between BNTU and SPbPU. It will open up new opportunities for students, postgraduate students and researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning and modern engineering technologies. The agreement also provides for compliance by both parties with provisions on export control, intellectual property protection and confidentiality of information.

The signing of the document became a continuation of the active cooperation between the universities in the development of the digital economy and the training of a new generation of engineering personnel in the Union State.
