Department : Power stations

On February 12, 1946, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Education of the USSR issued an order to open an energy faculty at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute (BPI). The faculty began training electrical engineers in the specialty "Power Plants, Networks and Systems". From that moment on, for the past 70 years, the Department of Power Plants has been leading its history. Then it was called "Electrical stations, networks and systems". The first head of the department was a well-known scientist, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the BSSR, Ph.D., Professor A.I. Rutsky. He was also elected dean of the Faculty of Energy. Alexander Ivanovich Rutsky headed the department for 25 years from 1946 to 1971. This department became the ancestor of other departments of the electric power industry. In 1963, a new department "Electrical Systems" was formed, responsible for the training of electrical engineers in the specialty "Electric power systems and networks". In 1970, the Department of Power Supply was established. Since 1963, the department in question became known as "Electric Power Plants" and trained specialists in the same specialty. Training sessions with students are held in several educational laboratories: "High Voltage Engineering", "Electromagnetic Transients", "Electrical Part of Power Plants", "Microelectronic Devices, Control, Monitoring and Protection of Electric Power Installations", "Relay Protection and Automation". Head of laboratories T.A. Ivleva-Shishkov. Leading electrical engineer I.I.

In the structure of the Belarusian National University, the Department of Power Plants occupies one of the most important positions. The department has become the flagship among the training centers for the training of specialists in the energy sector of Belarus. Its graduates successfully work in various positions of electric and thermal power enterprises of our country and abroad. The scientific developments of the department are known not only in the Republic of Belarus, but also far beyond its borders, and the research results are of real practical interest. The department maintains close scientific and business relations with enterprises and educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus and the world. Over the years of the existence of the department for the needs of the former USSR and the Republic of Belarus, more than 2500 power engineers have been trained, which currently form the basis of the human resources potential of the country's energy sector. Graduates of the department have held and hold high positions in the electric power industry: Minister of Energy, managers and chief engineers of Belenergo, RUP-oblenergo, power plants, branches of Electric Networks, Energonadzor, enterprises of the construction and installation complex of the Belarusian energy system, as well as chief power engineers of large industrial enterprises.

"Power engineers must be energetic." 1971 graduates met at BNTU
For graduates, this is not just a meeting, but a return to their youth. They share memories, recognize each other with familiar jokes and smiles, as if five decades have not passed since graduation.
