Industrial practice of 4th year nuclear engineering students at Leningrad NPP

Производственная практика студентов-атомщиков на Ленинградской АЭС

The 4th year students of the specialty "Design and Operation of Nuclear Power Plants" completed an internship at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant (LNPP) branch of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC. The practice took place both on the basis of the training unit and at the site of the LNPP-2 power units. This practice was especially interesting for the students because the power units with water-cooled reactors at LNPP-2 are the reference units of the Belarusian NPP. An excursion was organized to the engine rooms of power units No. 1 and No. 2 of LNPP-2, where students were shown the equipment of the second circuit of the nuclear power plant with the VVER-1200 reactor, and the differences between the two power units were shown. The employees of the turbine shop told about the specifics of their work. Guided tours were also conducted in the reactor workshop, the centralized repair workshop, the metal flaw detection and technical control department, the radiation safety Department, the nuclear safety department, the thermal automation and measurement workshop, the chemical and electrical workshop. At the lecture in the training unit, the students were shown a full-scale simulator. During the lectures, experienced instructors told about the automated process control systems of the LNPP-2 units, about the water-chemical regime at the plant, about the main equipment of the reactor compartment of power units with VVER-1200, about the experience of operating nuclear power plants with VVER-1200 reactors and much more. The students visited the LNPP Museum, where the museum staff told about the peculiarities of the nuclear industry in their country, about the history of nuclear energy and the LNPP. Throughout the internship, students were accompanied by staff from the Project Office of the International Staff Training Center, helped with the preparation of reports, and showed attentive and friendly attitude towards our students. As a result of the internship, students deepened their knowledge in the fields of power generation technology at nuclear power plants, technology for handling spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, radiation technological and dosimetric control at nuclear power plants.
