Department : Architecture of residential and public buildings

Since 2020, the department has been named after Professor, Honored Art Worker of the BSSR, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Architecture Alexander Petrovich Voinov.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department "Architecture" (since 1977 - the department "Architecture of residential and public buildings") was established in 1946. The head of the department is Professor, Doctor of Art History Yu. A. Yegorov. A., associate professors Filimonov S. D., Angelov V. B., professor Sergachev S. A. Since 2018, the department has been headed by candidate of architecture associate professor N. A. Lazovskaya.

Initially, being part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the department provided training for specialists in construction specialties. Since 1952, when the architectural department was formed, the main task was to train architects. I. - Associate Professor (later the first dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Honored Builder of the BSSR); Tarasikov N. Basically, all these titles and titles were later awarded to teachers for the contribution they made to the development of architecture and education. ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department "Architecture of residential and public buildings" provides in the educational process the study of the course of disciplines that are associated with architecture, which creates conditions for the implementation of the most diverse aspects of human life. The activities of the department are carried out in such a way as to comply with all pedagogical standards and organize the educational process in accordance with the qualification characteristics of the architect.

Graduates receive the qualification of "architect" and are employed in the structural divisions of the faculty, in public and private organizations that carry out design activities, as well as in the governing bodies of architectural and urban planning activities.

Excellent students who have shown a penchant for scientific research, actively participating in the SNTK, having publications enter the magistracy. The department conducts training in the second stage of higher education in the specialty "Architecture" in full-time and part-time education and training of highly qualified scientific personnel (postgraduate studies) in full-time and part-time education, including foreign citizens

The scope of the department includes: reading lecture courses, architectural coursework and diploma design, conducting educational and industrial practices: construction and technology, design and pre-diploma.

1st stage of higher education

Architectural materials science. History of architecture and urban planning. Composition of architectural objects. Typology of buildings and structures. Normative-legal documentation in architecture and construction. Reconstruction of objects of architecture and urban planning. Universal design of architectural objects. Modern architecture and design. Theory of architecture.

2nd stage of higher education

Methodology of architectural analysis of design solutions. Formation of the accessibility of the architectural environment. Innovation. Modern materials and technologies in architectural shaping. Architectural and town-planning sketching, idea-concept of the project. Research and design using computer technology for profiling.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

The topics of practical classes and course projects cover the main areas of future professional activity of architects in the design of residential and public buildings: Individual residential building (2 course). Multi-storey residential building of variable number of storeys (3 course). Public building of mass use - school (3rd year). Hall-type public building - leisure center (4 course). Reconstruction of a residential or public building (4 course). Multifunctional public complex (5 course). Optional project (6 course).

The main direction of the department's work is the desire to understand the creative impulses of young authors and help them realize their dreams of the art of architecture. The department maintains constant creative, organizational and advisory relations with the main design institutes and creative workshops of architects of the Republic of Belarus and leading masters of domestic architecture.

Chairman of the State Examination Commission of the Department - Kramarenko Viktor Vladimirovich, Honored Architect of Belarus, twice laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus. Participation in the work of the State Examination Commission, along with the teachers of the department and other well-known masters of domestic architecture, has always made the defense of graduation projects not an ordinary event, but an appropriate and timely test of the knowledge and abilities of a young specialist before he enters an independent creative path.

The department is actively involved in the training of scientific personnel. For a long time it was a kind of regional center for approbation of dissertation research in the field of architecture. More than 40 doctors and candidates of architecture with the direct participation of the department have been prepared for the national economy of Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia. Architects from far abroad countries - China, Nigeria, Mali, Cuba, Egypt, Iran - successfully prepared and defended dissertations. Every year, up to 15–20 students defend dissertations on the subject of the department for the degree of Master of Architecture.

The scientific activity of the department, focused primarily on the methodological support of the educational process, is closely linked to the current problems of the development of architecture. Therefore, the department has always actively participated in scientific research that is important for the national economy. Now the focus of the department is on the scientific problems of typology and reconstruction of residential and public buildings in the new socio-economic conditions, improving the regulatory framework for construction. The problems of folk architecture in Belarus and the development of traditions in modern architecture are being explored by Doctor of Architecture Sergachev S. A. Solving the problem of creating accessibility of the architectural environment for people with disabilities, including people with disabilities, as well as the universal design of objects of architecture and urban planning - the sphere of scientific interests of the candidates of architecture Lazovskaya N.A. and Mazanik A.V. Candidate of architecture Rak T.A. successfully develops the scientific and methodological foundations for the reconstruction of the fund of residential and public buildings using them in real design. Candidate of architecture Arabey V.G. Scientific research in the field of protection and preservation of the architectural heritage is carried out by the candidate of art criticism Goranskaya T.G. Young teachers of the department - Book E.N., Kiseleva M.S., Shestak Yu.T. – work on dissertation research on topical topics for the Republic of Belarus. The staff of the department is trying to constantly improve the teaching methods, paying more attention to the development of creative thinking of future architects. The works of Belarusian architects that have received the greatest recognition are the development of the village of Vertelishki in the Grodno district of the Grodno region, the Olympic complex "Raubichi", the memorial complexes "Khatyn" and "Brest Fortress-Hero", the development of the Vostok and Zeleny Lug microdistricts in Minsk, the Komarovsky covered market, Zheleznodorozhny railway station, the Palace of the Republic, the National Library, the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, Minsk-Arena, Chizhovka-Arena, the Lebyazhy water park, the Falcon multifunctional complex with the Marriot hotel in Minsk, many sports, shopping and entertainment, hotel complexes built in recent years in different cities of the country, associated with the work of teachers and graduates of the department. Therefore, it is no coincidence that, as before, the majority of students of the Faculty of Architecture strive to defend their graduation projects in the Department of Architecture of Residential and Public Buildings.

COLLEGE DESIGN

Every year, about 80 students complete graduation projects on the topics of the department. Diploma projects are developed on relevant real topics, primarily for the city of Minsk and the Minsk region. Diploma students show great interest in conceptual search topics that involve solving extraordinary problems, as well as in the topics of international architectural competitions in accordance with the direction of the department.

Diploma projects of the graduates of the department are constantly presented at international competitions for the best final qualifying works in architecture and design in Russia (St. Petersburg, Samara, Volgograd, Penza, Rostov-on-Don, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk), as well as in Baku, Yerevan, Florence , Lefkosia and other cities and countries. Diploma projects are highly appreciated by the international jury, the authors of the projects are awarded diplomas of 1 and 2 degrees, which in general indicates a high level of training of specialists at the department. Graduates of the department annually, over the past 13 years, take part in the Republican competition of diploma projects for graduates of higher and secondary special architectural schools of the Republic of Belarus and in the National Festival of Architecture, which is held every two years. Diploma projects are presented in the nominations "Architecture of residential buildings", "Architecture of public buildings", "Reconstruction of buildings", "Rural architecture". Every year, 4–5 diplomas of 1st and 2nd degrees of the republican competition replenish the treasury of achievements of the department. Three times the graduates of the department were awarded the highest award of the Republican competition - the Grand Prix. In 2012, the Grand Prix was awarded to the group of authors O. Belonovich and A. Mosyukova (headed by N. A. Lazovskaya), in 2016 - to D. Zhlobich (headed by O. V. Shaikova), in 2018 to Mazurkevich D. A (supervisor N.A. Lazovskaya).

Participation of students under the guidance of experienced leaders - teachers of the department in international architectural student competitions on various topics (Museum of Natural Sciences in Berlin, Biergartien in Castel Maggiore, School of Crafts in Venice, children's library in Komodi, multi-comfort residential buildings in Astana, Brest, Madrid, Dubai, etc.), held in Russia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, USA, Mexico and other countries, as well as in national architectural competitions, helps to expand the scope of educational design and allows students to express themselves both in a professional environment and in international architectural community. At the XII National Festival of Architecture, the project of P. Shknay (headed by N. A. Lazovskaya) was awarded an Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Architecture and Construction of the Republic of Belarus, as the best project in the "Universal Environment" nomination. Conceptual proposals for the architectural solution of the pavilion of Belarus at EXPO 2020 in Dubai, developed by 4th year students (Mazurenko M., Varivonchik M., Kurnevich V.) under the guidance of N.G. Lavretsky, entered the top five projects of the national architectural competition in 2017, taking a worthy 4th place out of 30, ahead of professional teams of authors.
