Architecture is not just about building buildings, but about creating a comfortable, aesthetic, and functional environment for living. The modern market dictates new rules: the industry requires specialists who can think big and combine bold creative concepts with advanced construction technologies. The Faculty of Architecture (FA) of the Belarusian National Technical University has been successfully training such professionals for over half a century.
The dean of the faculty, Yuri Chanturia, spoke in detail about the rich history, strong ties with the real sector of the economy, and the development vectors of the country's main architectural school. The head emphasized that the department, which is celebrating its 56th anniversary this year, is currently the key scientific and methodological center for specialized education in the country:
– The entire post-war Belarusian architecture in the 20th and 21st centuries was created primarily by the intelligence and talent of our university's graduates. The Faculty of Architecture at BNTU is not only the main national, but also an international school of architects. Today, we train specialists in architecture and architectural design, including the specialization "Urbanism and Architectural Environment Design."
The most important feature of the educational process at the Faculty of Architecture is its deep integration into the real economy. Every year, future architects complete dozens of conceptual projects commissioned by government agencies and leading enterprises.
– The main principle of architectural education at BNTU is to link it to the real socio-economic and cultural life of our country. This is how the most important quality of architecture is manifested, not so much as an “abstract science” or “pure art,” but as a deeply thought-out, rational, and pragmatic system that should serve to meet the current needs of people and create the environment for their life,” explained the dean.
This fundamental approach ensures that graduates are fully employed. Young professionals are highly sought after by major design institutes, including UP “MINSKPROEKT,” UP “MINSKGRADO,” OAO “MINSKMETROPROEKT,” and RUE “Institute Belzhilproekt.” Speaking about the competencies of a modern specialist, Yuri Vladimirovich highlights the main requirements of the industry:
– The priority for the graduating specialists will be their ability to make decisions on the formation of innovative infrastructure in the field of architecture and construction for large-scale development of advanced technologies, materials, structures. The transition to modern methods and technologies of architectural, urban planning and architectural and design design is ineffective without qualified personnel.
– During the entrance creative tests (drawing, composition, painting, drafting), it is extremely important to keep a cool head, not to panic, and to maintain an emotional balance in order to achieve the best result.

Student and extracurricular life at the Faculty of Architecture is traditionally characterized by a unique atmosphere where the academic process is closely intertwined with extensive creative and social activities. The center of everyday life and social activities for out-of-town students is the cozy dormitory No. 16, where all first-year students of the Faculty are guaranteed a place to quickly integrate into the creative environment.
The halls often host themed concerts, international evenings, and multinational cultural festivals. For those who enjoy intellectual activities, there are team quizzes and polyquests, while sports enthusiasts actively participate in the university's "Vivat, Druzhina!" program and streetlifting tournaments. Special attention is given to the comfort of new students, with the student council regularly organizing meetings with psychologists, conducting landscaping projects, and representing the faculty in the "Our Home is the Dormitory" competition.
The faculty also implements its creative potential at university-wide competitions. For example, at the BNTU Spring Festival 2026, the architecture faculty team took third place at the end of all the competition days. The students achieved their greatest triumph at the STEM festival, where they won first place for their outstanding acting skills and original visual designs. They also demonstrated a high level of preparation at the instrumental music festival, which earned them a third-place diploma. The festival was crowned with the jury's recognition: the experts highly appreciated the originality of the AF team and awarded them the special prize "Your Own Style" for their unique conceptual aesthetics.
When you enroll in the Architecture Department of BNTU, you're not just choosing a sought-after profession; you're embracing a distinct way of life. It's a place where bold creativity finds a solid engineering foundation, and talented students transform into creators of tomorrow's aesthetically pleasing, intelligent, and comfortable spaces. If you want to not just watch cities change, but design their future with your own hands, AF is the perfect platform for your professional start.
