Educational Internship: First Steps in Engineering Design

Учебная практика студентов МСФ: первые шаги в инженерном проектировании

From July 6 to July 18, 2026, an introductory educational internship was held at the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Belarusian National Technical University for first-year students of Group 10301425.

The practical sessions were conducted in English, allowing the students to consolidate their previously acquired knowledge and develop professional terminology related to mechanical engineering and computer-aided design.

The main objective of the internship was to develop basic skills in using modern computer-aided design tools and prepare students for further study of professional engineering disciplines.

During the internship, the students were introduced to the fundamentals of three-dimensional modeling of mechanical engineering components, learned the principles of creating and editing geometric objects, and completed practical assignments using the KOMPAS-Graphik and KOMPAS-3D software systems.

Particular attention was paid to developing skills in reading and creating engineering documentation. The students learned to create drawings of parts and assemblies, generate the required views, sections, and cross-sections, apply dimensions, and prepare graphical documents in accordance with established requirements.

An important part of the internship was completing individual assignments involving the modeling of mechanical engineering components. Through these tasks, the students gradually mastered the main stages of computer-aided design, from creating a three-dimensional model to preparing its graphical representation.

Special attention was also given to preparing the internship report. The students organized the results of their work, prepared the required documentation, and presented their results to the internship supervisor.

The practical sessions were held in the training laboratories of the BNTU Mechanical Engineering Building. Throughout the internship, the students received daily methodological support and consultations from the instructors, which enabled them to address emerging questions promptly and improve their practical skills.

The educational internship became an important stage in the professional development of the students of Group 10301425. The knowledge and skills acquired during the internship will provide a foundation for further study of disciplines related to computer-aided design, technological preparation of production, and modern digital technologies in mechanical engineering.
