Specialties from the inside: Machines and Electromechanics at BNTU\

Специальности изнутри: машины и электромеханика в БНТУ

 While applicants are getting their results from the CE and CT, we continue to tell you about the specialties of the Belarusian National Technical University. This material is for those who like to disassemble equipment, study mechanisms, and are not afraid of complex engineering tasks. Today, we're going to tell you who and how they are trained at the Faculty of Automotive Engineering and the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology.

Faculty of Automotive Engineering: Creators of the "Heart" of the Machine

One of the key specialties of the Faculty of Automotive Engineering of the BNTU is the training of power plant design engineers. Such personnel in Belarus are trained only at the Belarusian National Technical University. It is not just about engines, but about designing, 3D modeling and creating engines for various equipment. Pavel Malyshkin, Head of the Department of Internal Combustion Engines, told about how the training in the specialty "Power Plants" takes place.

This specialty exists only at the BNTU. Its main task is to train design engineers who can not only disassemble, but also design and model, and influence the work processes of engines in professional programs. If an applicant is interested in creating something new, machinery, power plants and power units, our specialty will allow him to develop in this direction, get highly qualified and prestigious work," Pavel Malyshkin emphasizes.

In April 2026, the distribution of graduates took place, which showed a wide geography of places of employment. Young specialists are leaving for the Minsk Motor Plant, BelAZ, MAZ, the Minsk Tractor Plant, and the Wheel Tractor Plant. There is also a demand for companies that provide maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of engines. Design engineers not only design new units, but also engage in modernization and restoration repairs.

 The program takes 4 years to complete in full-time mode. The part-time department does not accept new students and will be closed in a year. As explained at the department, the market today does not need mass motorists, but one-of-a-kind, deeply trained specialists.

 – The curriculum includes unique disciplines: “History of engine development”, “Hybrid power plants”, “Alternative engine schemes” – aviation, ship, gas turbine, turbojet, tank. In diploma projects, students design everything from a single-cylinder motorcycle engine to V16 for BelAZ quarries. The department plans to create a modern laboratory with a 3D scanner and a 3D printer," said the head of the department.

As noted by students of the Faculty of Automotive Engineering, to study in the specialty "Power plants. Internal combustion engines" is quite interesting and fascinating.

During training, you learn a lot in the field of engine building and learn something new every time. Over the past 3 years, a lot of things have been studied: from the general concept of operation to the design and modeling of individual engine components. I chose this specialty because I am interested in mechanics, design, and cars in general, — said Kirill Levoshik, a third-year student.

 This unique program, which is not available at any other university in the country, gives students a rare opportunity to study the history of engine engineering and design real power units for the giants of the Belarusian automotive industry. If you are willing to understand engines down to the last screw and want to be part of the team that is shaping the future of Belarusian engineering, then this is the right place for you.

 Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering: Technology at Depth

The Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology trains specialists for the mining, construction, and industrial sectors in the specialty “Machines and Equipment for Mining Operations. Mining Electromechanics.” Vladimir Boriseyko, Head of the Department of Mining Machines, explained the intricacies of studying in this specialty.

 Since 2023, the Faculty of Mining and Engineering Ecology at BNTU has been offering an updated program: a single continuous 5.5-year training track. Graduates receive the qualification of a mining engineer-electromechanic and a master's degree. This allows you to immediately take on leadership positions, conduct research, or enroll in postgraduate studies without unnecessary exams, – said Vladimir Vasilyevich.

 For maximum practical orientation, the departments' branches are located directly at specialized organizations. Students get acquainted with the real conditions of mining machine operation at such bases as:

  • UP "Kaliiproekt" (Minsk);
  • OAO "Belaruskali" (Soligorsk);
  • UPP "Granit" (Mikashevichi);
  • UP "MINSKMETROSTROY" (Minsk);
  • OAO "Nedra Nezhin", peat briquette factories "Usyazh" and "Sergeevichskoye", "NPO Center" and others.

 – It is worth noting that OAO "Belaruskali" and GPO "Beltopgaz" provide sponsorship in strengthening the material and technical base of the educational process, and have already started to create competence centers, – shared Vladimir Vasilyevich.

Graduates of the specialty are expected at the mining enterprises of Belaruskali, Granit, Dolomit, Shakhtostroy, construction and transport companies (Minskmetrostroy) and design organizations (research institutes, Kaliiproekt, Soligorsk Institute of Resource Saving Problems) from year to year.

 – We study every little detail of the technique. In the pit, 420 to 1000 meters deep, mistakes are not forgiven. Our specialty is a rare combination of a fundamental engineering school, in-depth practice on specific types of machines, and a quick career start thanks to a master's degree, said Alexandra Novik, a third-year student.
