Science, Technology, Creativity: The Department of Machine Science and Machine Parts Summed Up the Results of the 82nd Student Scientific and Technical Conference

Наука, техника, творчество. На кафедре «Машиноведение и детали машин» подвели итоги 82-й студенческой конференции

On 20–21 May 2026, the Department of Machine Science and Machine Parts of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of BNTU hosted the 82nd Student Scientific and Technical Conference. This year, the session «Promising Directions in Mechanical Engineering for Mobile Machines, Technological Equipment, and Energy Systems» was organized in three subsections: «Applied Mechanics», «Machine Parts», and «Theory of Mechanisms and Machines»,

Figures, Facts, and Geography of Participants

The conference once again confirmed the strong interest of students in scientific and technical creativity. In total, more than a hundred students from different BNTU faculties took part in the work of the three subsections, including the Mechanical Engineering Faculty, the Power Engineering Faculty, the Faculty of Automotive and Tractor Engineering, and the Faculty of Information Technologies and Robotics. A total of 57 students delivered presentations, which significantly exceeded the number planned in the program. Scientific supervision was provided by 18 faculty members of the department.

Topics Discussed: From Classical Mechanics to Emotional Intelligence

The range of topics is impressive – from the theory of mechanisms and mechanics of machines to modern issues of applying artificial intelligence in engineering practice.

The subsection «Applied Mechanics» (20 May, chaired by Senior Lecturer E. V. Khrushchev) became a meeting point for supporters of classical science and innovative approaches. Participants actively discussed software development for the calculation and design of mechanical transmissions (FITR), the application of energy-saving technologies (EF), and the use of artificial intelligence in solving technical problems (MSF). The presentations sparked lively discussion among the participants.

At the subsection «Machine Parts» (21 May, chaired by PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor P. P. Kapusta), reports were heard on the design and modeling of machine drive elements. Special attention was drawn to practice-oriented work. One of the most striking presentations was delivered by a team of students from the Automotive and Tractor Faculty under the supervision of Professor A. T. Skoybeda. The students presented a development featuring a fundamentally new type of wheel-walking propulsion system. The finished model moved actively across the table, overcoming the proposed obstacles.

The subsection «Theory of Mechanisms and Machines» (20 May, chaired by PhD in Technical Sciences Associate Professor E. M. Dubovskaya) was devoted to the analysis of various mechanical systems: hypoid, planetary, cycloidal, and worm gears, cam mechanisms, variators, as well as issues of machine vibration protection. Historical aspects of the development of the science of machines also attracted particular interest.

All the presented works clearly demonstrated how the university becomes a platform for creating real prototypes and engineering solutions.

Looking Ahead

The 82nd annual Student Scientific and Technical Conference at the Department of Machine Science and Machine Parts once again proved that student science at BNTU is alive, relevant, and focused on the future. From classical mechanical transmissions to gravitational waves, from propulsion system design to the emotional intelligence of an engineer — such is the range of interests of the modern Polytechnic student.

As a result of the conference, 30 student papers have been prepared for publication. The best presentations delivered at the subsections will be included in the conference proceedings. Publication will allow young researchers to consolidate their results and present them to a wider audience.

The best works were awarded diplomas. Congratulations to the winners, prizewinners, and all participants! We wish them new scientific discoveries, bright projects, and successful participation at the republican level.

Prepared based on the work of the subsections of the Department of Machine Science and Machine Parts, BNTU.
