As part of the optional course "In the World of Engineering and Technology: Choosing an Engineering profession", 11th grade students of the BNTU Lyceum (Лицей БНТУ – Институты – Белорусский национальный технический университет (БНТУ/BNTU)) visited the Department of Engineering Ecology of the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering.
The program of the event included an introduction to the theoretical foundations in the field of the chemical industry: types of chemical production, equipment and automation, technical fundamentals of ensuring the safety of the chemical industry, as well as conducting laboratory experiments on the topic "Methods of expressing the composition of solutions" under the supervision of teachers of the department and students of the faculty.
Associate Professor of the Department of Engineering Ecology Natalia Zyk and senior lecturer Natalia Krechko, together with the students, performed acid-base titration of the alkali solution prepared in the work with a mononormal hydrochloric acid solution. Associate Professor Novik Anastasia and teacher Makarevich Nadezhda determined the ratio of pure calcium in the technical composition with the guys, and also titrated the solutions. And Associate Professor Alexander Mezhentsev, in the course of determining the ratios of solute and solvent in quantitative terms, shared with the lyceum students the practical experience of a specialist in the chemical technology department.
The result of the meeting was that the students gained valuable theoretical knowledge and practical skills, expanded their understanding of the engineering profession and got acquainted with the real aspects of working in the chemical industry.
